CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The main line of Hongyancun Bridge, another bridge over the river, has been opened to the public since 10:00 on October 28, according to Chongqing Housing and Urban-Rural Development Committee. If there is no traffic jam, it takes 10 minutes to arrive at Wutaishan interchange in Jiulongpo District from Baishubao, Yubei District.

Design: The main bridge is designed with the theme of "Hongyan China Gate"

Hongyancun Bridge is located between the completed Jiahua Jialing River Bridge and Shimen Jialing River Bridge, with six expressway lanes in two directions (80km per hour) and 31.2-meter wide sidewalks for the upper deck; the lower deck is designed as a slow traffic system that consists of 10-meter wide double tracks are arranged in the center and two 7-meter wide single car ramps on each side of the track.

Hongyancun Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with high and low towers, double cable faces, and double decks, according to the Lai Yaping, the chief designer and the deputy chief bridge engineer of from T. Y. Lin International Engineering Consulting (China) Co., Ltd. (the institute in charge of the bridge design).

"The bridge tower adopts the portal reinforced concrete structure with the most direct vertical load transfer. The total height of the high tower and lower tower is 202m and 150.7m respectively," said Lai Yaping. He added that, when designing the bridge tower, the design team took the gate-shaped bridge tower with rational strength as a foothold, and used simple, rigid and hard vertical lines as well as multiple groups of rigid lines such as the horizontally extended main beam and inclined cable to form a simple, clear and powerful shape, which embodies the upright, resolute, united and upward character of the people in the mountain city.

Considering the fact that the bridge is close to the Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Hall, the team designed the bridge with the theme of “Hongyan China Gate” and chose the ochre color that resembles the natural color of red shale. Lai Yaping said he hoped that the combination of the solemn and magnificent views of the towers and the distinctive red colour would fit in with the “Hongyan spirits” that the bridge embodies.

Travel: It takes 10 minutes to travel from Yubei District to Jiulongpo District

The official opening of the main line of Hongyancun Bridge means that the three vertical lines of the expressway will be fully opened in the near future. The three vertical lines of the expressway connect the Yuwu interchange in the north and Yudong in the south, which is an important link between the "middle valleys" of the central area.

After it is opened to traffic, the residents in Yubei District can enter into Baishubao interchange, drive through Hongshilu Tunnel, Hongyancun Jialing River Brideg, Hongyancun Tunnel, and Wutaishan interchange before arriving Jiulongpo District. It takes only 10 minutes! It take around 8 minutes to drive from Yuzhong District to Yubei District (Xiezitai Tunnel – Hongyan Jialing River Bridge – Hongshilu Tunnel – Baishubao interchange).

There are four interchanges on the main line of the Hongyancun Bridge: Baishubao interchange and Wutaishan interchange have been completed and put into use, while Jianxin Xilu interchange and Hongyancun interchange are still under construction, which are expected to be opened next year. Once these two interchanges are opened, the public will be able to travel from the north and south sides of the Hongyancun Bridge to Beibin Road and Jiabin Road via the ramps.

On its completion, Hongyancun Bridge will form an important north-south corridor through the central city that greatly reduce the travel time from the Chenjiaping area to the Longshan area, enhance the interactive benefits between Yubei, Jiangbei, Shapingba, Yuzhong, Jiulongpo, Dadukou and the banks of the two rivers, effectively relieve the traffic pressure of Jiahua Bridge, Gaojia Huayuan Bridge, Shimen Bridge, Yu'ao Bridge, further improve the network structure of the central city fast roads, and contribute to a more efficient and convenient modern multi-level transportation system.
