Massachusetts, Minnesota have highest living standards among U.S. states: WP

2022-12-06 15:18:20

NEW YORK, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Across all the 50 U.S. states, Massachusetts and Minnesota have the highest living standards, The Washington Post (WP) recently cited a study.

Neither state has the highest income, a title that goes to Connecticut, according to the study published in the journal International Economic Review by Federal Reserve Board economists.

Nor do they have the highest life expectancy, which belongs to California and Hawaii; or even the most leisure time, which is for Mississippi and West Virginia, it said.

"But Massachusetts and Minnesota have the best balance across a panel of metrics that, combined, give people a holistic sense of well-being," said WP in its report.

Living standards in each state are based on an index that includes life expectancy, education, cost-of-living-adjusted spending, hours worked and inequality, it added.
