CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- At a height of 300 meters, a cableway bridge was built across the valley as an air corridor. Trucks run on the bridge as if walking the wire. Located in Wulong, Chongqing, this cableway bridge has gone viral online and attracted many photographers.

The cableway bridge, with a span of 245.52 meters and a total width of 4.3 meters, was completed within four months. Without any pier or stay cable, the bridge is supported by 155 unbonded steel strands laid at the bottom and both sides of the bridge deck and can carry trucks that weigh up to 45 tons.

Behind the cableway bridge is the Shuangbao Bridge under construction located in the Wulong section of the Chongqing-Hunan Highway. It is the double arch bridge with the longest span around the world. Due to the complex and dangerous terrain, it’s extremely difficult to carry out construction of the Shuangbao Bridge and transport materials and machines. To solve these problems, the builders conducted investigations several times and finally designed the cableway bridge for the transport of construction materials.

Trucks of construction materials are transported to the construction site of the Shuangbao Bridge. According to Zhang Bin, deputy manager of the Chongqing-Hunan Highway Shuangbao Bridge Project, the land acquisition for the cableway bridge construction is reduced by around 15 mu, the number of trees cut down drops 2,800, and the transportation distance is shortened by nearly 20km compared with the construction of a conventional road. The cableway bridge is economically beneficial and environmentally friendly.

When the driver Yi Qiang drove a truck loaded with 37 tons of cement on this air corridor for the first time, he felt very nervous looking down from a height of 300 meters.

Yi Qiang said that the truck's speed was required to be less than 10km/h when running through the bridge, and he drove on the bridge smoothly. He transports concrete across the bridge three or four times a day. To ensure safe travel on the cableway bridge, the bridge is equipped with speed reminders and wind speed monitoring, and the bridge is regularly going through examinations.

Zhang Bin told the reporter that after the cableway bridge became a hotspot, the relevant department in Wulong coordinated with the project department to retain the cableway bridge for tourism development. Zhang Bin reminded the visitors to follow the construction order and be careful when coming to see the cableway bridge, and the bridge is used for construction purposes and irrelevant vehicles and personnel are prohibited from passing through.
