Chongqing's online retail sales reaches 3.96 billion yuan during 2023 Spring Festival holiday

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- During the Spring Festival holiday in 2023 (January 21-27), Chongqing's online retail sales reached 3.96 billion yuan, up 32.6% from last year. Among them, physical online retail sales reached 920 million yuan, up 9.4% from last year, and the industry showed a new trend of recovery.

According to the relevant person in charge of Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, Chongqing's online retail presents four characteristics during the Spring Festival:

——The online "New Year's Shopping Festival" stimulates consumer demand and consumer enthusiasm.

During the "Online New Year's Shopping Festival" in 2023 (from December 30, 2022 to January 28, 2023), enterprises and merchants in the city participated in that extensively, and all districts and counties actively deployed and coordinated to carry out various distinctive consumption promotion activities. All e-commerce platforms opened, integrated, accelerated innovation, and jointly linked online and offline to create a diversified consumption scenario.

According to the monitoring of the third-party platform, during the "Online New Year's Shopping Festival" in 2023, Chongqing's online retail sales reached 19.02 billion yuan, up 18.2% from last year. Among the physical online retail industry in Chongqing, food and health care, 3C digital, clothing, shoes and bags industry ranked the top three in the online retail volume; pharmaceutical equipment, jewelry and accessories, and outdoor sports ranked the top three in the growth. Chongqing's rural physical online retail sales exceeded 1.3 billion yuan.

——Seize the "Spring Festival Season", and rural e-commerce "prospering agriculture through digital commerce" to help farmers increase income.

During the "Online New Year's Shopping Festival" in 2023, the online special activity of "prospering agriculture through digital commerce" was active. All major supermarkets and wholesale markets of agricultural products strengthened the connection between production and marketing, actively organized the supply of goods, and helped the stable operation of sufficient supply and prices of agricultural products. The growth momentum of online retail sales of agricultural products in Chongqing continued to emerge, and the effect of online sales of agricultural products was prominent.

The increasing demand of residents to visit relatives and friends and prepare gifts and dishes has driven the online sales of high-quality agricultural products such as tea, fruit, herbal medicine, grain and oil. According to the monitoring of the third-party platform, during the "Online New Year's Shopping Festival" in 2023, the online retail sales of agricultural products in Chongqing increased by 20.1% year-on-year. Among them, livestock and poultry, tea, grain and oil are among the top three in the industry, and beef, dry pepper, orange, pepper, green tea and so on are favored.

——Mobile "Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner" with diversified choices helps food and beverage consumption recover.

With the recovery of food and beverage consumption, during the Spring Festival holiday, the public's demand for Chinese New Year's Eve dinner is hot. The main categories are Chinese dinner and hot pot. Ordering meals at home and mobile Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner become new choices. Taking into account the needs of some people and the elderly to eat at home during the Spring Festival holiday, convenient, fast and varied takeout and prefabricated dishes also continue to sell well.

According to the monitoring of the third party platform, the consumption of catering in Chongqing increased by 30.7% year on year, and the consumption of catering rose orderly during the Spring Festival holiday in 2023.

——"Fireworks" in the business district, the new scene of interactive consumption lights up the business district economy.

During the Spring Festival holiday, all major business districts in Chongqing took various measures to create new interactive consumption scenes, superimposed new digital consumption scenes through spatial scene reconstruction, IP, scenario-based, branding and other elements, carried out special consumption theme activities such as the New Year promotion, and offline commerce gradually developed to diversified, intelligent, green, and full-scene experience.
