Sichuan opera "Jiang Jie" performed in Beijing for the first time after winning the Wenhua Award

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Mei Lanfang Theater in Beijing was full up on March 1. As the only opera in Chongqing to participate in the performance of excellent stage art repertoire of new era, the Sichuan opera "Jiang Jie", created and rehearsed by Chongqing Sichuan Opera Theater, was staged here. This is the fourth time that the opera has been performed in Beijing, and also the first time since it won the Wenhua Award.
The Sichuan opera "Jiang Jie" is based on the novel "Red Rock" and is starred by Shen Tiemei, vice chairman of the China Theatre Association, chairman of the Chongqing Federation of Literary and Art Circles and president of the Chongqing Sichuan Opera Theatre. Since its premiere in January 2018, the opera has been performed more than 100 times nationwide, widely praised. It won the "Wenhua Award" of the 17th Chinese Culture and Art Government Award in September, 2022.
In Beijing, many fans were looking forward to watching the Sichuan opera “Jiang Jie”. At 5:00 p.m., the reporter came to the lobby of Mei Lanfang Theater. Before tickets started to be checked, seats at the entrance of the theater had been already occupied by the audiences arriving in advance, and brochures had been quickly handed out.
At 7:30 p.m., accompanied by the powerful Chuanjiang working song, the Sichuan opera "Jiang Jie" began.
This night, many of audiences in Mei Lanfang Theater watched the whole opera in tears. In the play, Shen Tiemei portrayed the vivid image of Miss Jiang, an excellent female Communist, making the audience deeply learn the hard course that the revolutionary ancestors pledged their lives to build a new China. At the end of the performance, when Miss Jiang went to the execution ground with a smile before dawn, a golden party emblem slowly rose on the background curtain, which made people greatly shocked. After the performance, Shen Tiemei and the other actors sang the song "Praise to Red Plum Blossom" together. Many of the audience could not help singing together, bringing the atmosphere to a climax.
