CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) approved the location of Chongqing’s new airport on March 23, 2023, and wrote on the approval document that the proposed new airport of Chongqing fulfills the plan for the development of the country's civil aviation industry during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and Bishan’s Zhengxing with more favorable conditions, compared with Hechuan’s Dashi and Bishan’s Guangpu, is suitable as the site for the new airport. Therefore, it is decided that Bishan’s Zhengxing will be the preferred site for Chongqing's new airport. ACCA proposed to steadily propel the preliminary work of the project based on the intended functions of the new airport and following the construction plan of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

The project team of ACCA started the siting of Chongqing’s new airport in 2018, aiming for a regional hub airport and freight hub with a transport capacity of about 70 to 80 million passengers constituting important part of the international aviation hub in Chongqing. The new airport will be significant to the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing world-class airport cluster and the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. When coordinating the program design, aircraft performance, and integrated transport, the project team tried to apply a great variety of digital technologies in the siting of large domestic airports for the first time.
