CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The plan for constructing the high-speed rail network of a “米” shape has been fully carried out and the four high-speed railways, namely, Chongqing-Wanzhou High-speed Railway, Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-speed Railway, the Second Chengdu-Chongqing High-speed Railway, and Chongqing-Xi'an High-Speed Railway have started construction recently, which means the mileage of high-speed railways under construction is nearly 1,000 kilometers (the operating mileage has exceeded 1,000 kilometers), according to the first session of the Standing Committee of the Sixth Chongqing Municipal People's Congress.

The report on how the People's Government of Chongqing Municipality responded to the reviews of the Standing Committee of Chongqing Municipal People's Congress on the "work report of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government on the development of a strong transportation city" was read and discussed at the meeting.

The report shows that Chongqing is accelerating the optimization of its multilevel traffic layout. To build a more well-shaped water transport system linking Chongqing with other countries and regions, Chongqing has promoted the expansion and improvement of the New Western Land-sea corridor in its western area, which connects Chongqing with 393 ports across 119 countries and regions. More than 3,000 trains of China Railway Express (Chongqing) have been operated in the eastern area. Phase I of the intelligent Yangtze River logistics project has been put into use in the northern area, with over 1,196 Shanghai-Chongqing direct vessels in operation. In northern Chongqing, over 2,200 trains have been operative for Chongqing-Manzhou-Russia Express. Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has handled 415,000 tons of cargo, ranking 8th in China. To build a more mature high-speed railway system, Chongqing has fully carried out the plan for constructing the high-speed rail network of a “米” shape, completed Zhengzhou-Chongqing High-speed Railway, pushed forward the construction of the Chongqing-Kunming High-Speed Railway and the Chongqing-Qianjiang section of Chongqing-Hunan High-speed Railway in an orderly manner, and started the construction of four high-speed railways, namely, Chongqing-Wanzhou High-speed Railway, Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-speed Railway, the Second Chengdu-Chongqing High-speed Railway, and Chongqing-Xi'an High-Speed Railway. The mileage of high-speed railways under construction is nearly 1,000 kilometers, while the operating mileage has exceeded 1,000 kilometers. Besides, efforts have been made to increase the function of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River shipping center, push forward the improvement of the Fuling- Chaotianmen section of the Yangtze River main waterway, speed up the construction of the Lize Shipping Hub of the Jialing River and start building Phase I of Huangjiao Port in Jiulongpo. The mileage of the waterway of Level III or above across Chongqing has exceeded 1,100 kilometers, and the ports in Chongqing have handled 210 million tons of cargo and 4 million TEUs for the year. When it comes to the accelerated development of the international aviation gateway hub, Chongqing has finished the main steel structure of the T3B terminal of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport and the renovation and expansion of Wanzhou Airport and Qianjiang Airport, significantly increasing the capacity of five civil airports.
