CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Have you ever seen a reproduction of a famous painting on the underpass? Recently, a reproduction of a famous painting from the Northern Song Dynasty, A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains on the walls of an underpass in Chongqing’s Jiulongpo District, has gone viral online.

The reporter went to the underpass of Wutaishan Interchange in Jiulongpo (a branch road to Hongyan Village Bridge) recently and saw that the mural is mostly completed. When driving through the underpass, drivers will be amazed by the beautiful landscape presented by the mural.

It is understood that workers have been creating the mural for 25 days and now they are working on the details such as coloring and delineating. It’s estimated that the mural will be fully completed before the May Day holidays. Upon its completion, the mural will be decorated with lighting.

The quaint and magnificent painting of A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains and the brilliant light constitute another enchanting scene of the night in Chongqing.

“Chongqing is known as a city for its beautiful mountains and rivers, which inspires us to create a reproduction of A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains on the walls of the underpass. We hope that residents can experience the cultural appeal of China when driving through the underpass and seeing these pictures,” said Wang Weiwei, one of the painters of the mural.

Jiulongpo District boasts more than one such "hand-painted underpass". The reporter also saw workers paint the walls of an underpass covered by green plants in Yuanjiagang. The colored paintings match the green plants, forming a vibrant scene.
