It is the first time in recent years that the EU Delegation to China has organized a large-scale visit to China outside Beijing, with Chongqing as the first stop.

China (Chongqing) – EU Economic, Trade, and Cultural Cooperation Seminar was attended by ambassadors from the 18 EU member states, including Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and Sweden, Consul generals from EU countries, representatives from the China-EU Chamber of Commerce, officials from Chongqing, and representatives from some Chongqing and EU enterprises.

It was the first time for Ambassador Jorge Toledo to visit Chongqing. He remarked that Chongqing is a modern, hi-tech, and futuristic metropolis. The EU is optimistic about the large market of more than 100 million people in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, which he believes contains lots of anticipated opportunities for investment and consumption.

Regarding the advantages of future cooperation between Chongqing and Europe, Helena Sångeland (Song Lian), Swedish Ambassador to China said that Chongqing and Sweden have a lot in common in terms of innovation and high technology. She believed that both sides could seek further cooperation in this regard.

This seminar will enhance mutual understanding and expand the cooperation fields between the two sides, promote the opening-up level of Chongqing, showcase the advantages of Chongqing in the fields of culture and investment, and lay a solid foundation for further exchanges and cooperation, an official from the Foreign Affairs Office of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government said.
