CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Ctrip has recently released a report on family tourism trends recently. The report shows that the number of orders for domestic family travel orders in the first half of 2023 increased by 1.5 times; as the long-suppressed demand for family tourism was greatly unleashed, the number of family travel tourists was 15% higher than the pre-epidemic level. In the first half of this year, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Xi'an, Wuhan, Sanya, Nanjing, Changsha, Kunming, Tianjin, and Zhengzhou have become the top 15 popular domestic destinations for family travel.

With the early recovery of long-distance tours, long-distance family tours become popular with most families. On the Ctrip platform, the orders for group tour products labeled "Selected for Families" surged by 90% year on year in the first half of the year; orders for research and study tour products rose by 75%.

As the demand for family tours dramatically increases, tourism products have diversified this year. For example, panda preservation experience, farming experience, and mountain-climbing and hiking experience are very popular with families this year.

Today, more and more families are putting a high value on the quality and experience of travel, so there has been a high demand for immersive family travel and better accommodation. Compared with other types of rooms, the family room is more expensive. The average spending on family rooms increased by 22% year-on-year; even so, family rooms are still in short supply during the holidays, according to Ctrip.

Visiting scenic spots with children is still popular with families. Since regular epidemic prevention was implemented, most scenic areas have been re-open, and the first half of this year saw a 2.8-fold increase in the orders for scenic spot tickets. Theme parks, zoos, museums, mountains, and aquariums are all popular attractions for families.

Though Children’s Day this year is a weekday, many families still planed a family tour to celebrate the holiday with their children. Ctrip’s data show that orders for short-distance tours on Children’s Day this year increased by 142% year-on-year. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
