Chongqing Jinyun Mountain and Liangping Shuanggui Lake both selected as national forest and grass science bases

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The reporter learned from the Chongqing Forestry Administration that recently, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration announced the results of evaluating the first batch of national forest and grass science bases. Chongqing Jinyun Mountain National Nature Reserve and Chongqing Liangping Shuanggui Lake National Wetland Park recommended by Chongqing Forestry Administration won the title of "First Batch of National Forest and Grass Science Bases".

Chongqing Jinyun Mountain National Nature Reserve is located in Beibei District, Shapingba District and Bishan District of Chongqing, on the west bank of Wentang Gorge of Jialing River. It covers an area of 7,600 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 98.6%, and an altitude of 200 to 952.2 meters. It is a typical well-preserved subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest ecosystem and plant gene bank in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

Jinyun Mountain Nature Reserve is rich in plant resources, including a variety of rare and endangered plants. According to the survey, there are currently 2,407 species of higher plants, 55 of which are under the special protection of the state, 83 of which are rare and endangered, and 36 of which are model plants in Jinyun Mountain; there are 1,071 species of animals, including 18 rare and endangered species under the first and second grade protection of the state.

Chongqing Liangping Shuanggui Lake National Wetland Park is situated in Shuanggui Sub-district, Liangping District, covering a total area of 349.97 hectares, including 190.76 hectares of wetlands, with a wetland coverage rate of 54.51%. It is a member of the National Wetland Park Pioneer Alliance and an important wetland at the municipal level in Chongqing. It has been awarded the titles of National Youth Nature Education Green Camp and Chongqing Science Base. It also has been selected as one of the excellent examples of biodiversity announced by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, P.R.C and one of the top ten excellent examples of the first ecological protection and restoration in Chongqing, and rated as a national AAAA tourist attraction.

The park is extremely rich in biodiversity, with 623 species of higher vascular plants, 282 species of vertebrates (including 212 species of birds), and tens of thousands of wild migratory birds of geese and ducks, including the first-grade State protection animal, the Aythya baeri, which come to Shuanggui Lake every winter.
