CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Surrounded by luxuriant green plants, the surface of Caiyun Lake ripples in the breeze. The opening ceremony of the 2023 Chongqing Jiulongpo World Environment Day Event took place on June 5 in the Caiyun Lake sewage-treatment plant, which is the first garden-style sewage treatment plant in Chongqing.

Chongqing's first garden-style sewage-treatment plant is unveiled

When walking in the plant, you will not smell any odor and feel like strolling in a park.

It is because the advanced Food Chain Reactor (FCR) facility is employed in the sewage-treatment plant. The FCR uses the metabolism of microorganisms and aquatic plants in the ecosystem to degrade pollutants in sewage.

“This is the first garden-style sewage-treatment plant in Chongqing. With the Hungarian FCR technology, the plant has established various ecological systems to achieve natural degradation and purification of water pollutants. It is more energy-efficient, low-carbon, and environmentally friendly compared to traditional processes,” said Zhang Fei, the builder of the Caiyun Lake sewage-treatment plant. He added that they would operate the Caiyun Lake sewage-treatment plant well. Firstly, to provide ecological water for Caiyun Lake; secondly, to supply energy for the nearby area through Water-source heat pumps. In the future, Caiyun Lake sewage-treatment plant will be a garden-style sewage-treatment plant and a popular science base featuring advanced technology, sound environments, resource recycling, and clean energy.

Students from Caiyunhu Primary School were invited to participate in the event. They used all kinds of waste materials to make creative handmade works and do interesting environmental experiments.
