CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Following Beijing, Harbin, and Shenzhen, Chongqing was the fourth city to host the torch relay for the 31st FISU World University Games. The relay was held at Chongqing University on June 24, which will empower the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

Brilliant singing and dancing performances were offered in the square in front of the main teaching building in Area A of Chongqing University at around 9:00 a.m. The slogan, “Striving Youth Flying Dreams” and the torchlight were eye-catching.

The cauldron towers and the torch for the Chengdu Universiade were lit one after another in a burst of applause. Li Xuerui, the first torch bearer and the Olympic champion in badminton, took the torch and ran out of the venue, beginning the torch relay in Chongqing.

There were 31 torchbearers from the fields of sports, science and technology, education, aviation, and economy, including students, athletes, scientists, artisans, teachers, model workers, moral models, and young volunteers. In addition to the lead runner Li Xuerui, there were torch bearers including Wei Qiuyue, the former captain of the Chinese women's volleyball team and Olympic champion, and Gu Li, the world champion in Chinese Go. The youngest torch bearer was Li Kunluo, a 21-year-old student from Chongqing University, while the oldest is Zhou Xuhong, a 66-year-old academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering of Chongqing University.
