CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- A few days ago, a visitor to Chongqing Zoo had a dispute with the staff because he didn't see any pandas, which sparked heated discussions on the Internet.

In the video, a male visitor asked the zoo staff to take out the pandas and was insistent on watching pandas; otherwise, he would require a refund. The staff member explained to the visitor over and over again, “it’s extremely hot at noon, and the pandas need to take a rest and stay cool indoors. Please come to visit pandas next time when the weather is cooler.” The visitor seemed not to be satisfied with his answer, and he asked other tourists to take a video of this situation and post it on social media.

The reporter contacted Chongqing Zoo to confirm that the incident in the video took place on July 12. As the pandas in the zoo took a rest indoors due to the high temperature at noon, the visitor didn’t see any pandas.

This incident sparked heated discussions on the Internet:

“Pandas need a rest on such a scorching day.”

“We feel hot even in short sleeves, and let alone pandas with thick hair.”

“Animals have their own rights too. They need to stay cool indoors on such a hot day.”

Some netizens suggest Chongqing Zoo release the visiting hours for the pandas in summer and remind visitors that they may not see the pandas in the zoo because pandas have to take a rest indoors due to the hot weather.

According to the Management Office of Chongqing Zoo, pandas enjoy cold weather and can't stand the heat of summer. Due to recent high temperatures, the pandas normally have outdoor activities in the morning and then come back to their rooms to stay cool as the temperature rises.

The Management Office of Chongqing Zoo issued a notice to remind tourists that if they want to visit the pandas in summer, they’d better come from 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The hours for outdoor activities of the pandas may be adjusted based on the weather conditions of the day.
