Chongqing Ciqikou and Jonker Walk Melaka form a friendly historical and cultural block

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Ciqikou Sub-district Office (in Chongqing’s Shapingba) and the Office of the Construction Commission of Historical District of Malacca (Jonker Walk Melaka), Malaysia, have executed the Agreement on Forming a Friendly Historical and Cultural Block from Historical and Cultural Street between Ciqikou Ancient Town, Shapingba District, Chongqing Municipality, and Jonker Walk Melaka, Historical District of Malacca, Malaysia on July 17 via videoconferencing, according to the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce.

Ciqikou Ancient Town is a well-known cultural and tourism attraction invested with significance in the development of an international consumption center in Chongqing. It was designated as one of the top ten landmarks in the cultural and tourism industry of Chengdu and Chongqing in November 2020 and included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage scenic spots in September 2022.

Jonker Walk Melaka, located in the city center of Malacca, a world cultural heritage site, is an ancient street incorporating historic sites, culture, and leisure. It is developed into a famous cultural tourism attraction. It will be interesting to see how these two famous scenic spots work together!

According to the agreement, the two parties will strive to build a longstanding, stable, mutually beneficial, multi-level, wide-range and multi-field cooperation relationship. This action aims to deepen mutual understanding, enhance friendship, strengthen cultural exchanges, tourism cooperation and business exchanges. On the basis of the friendly neighborhood relations, it also strives to bring into full play their respective resource advantages and roles and promote the all-round exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing and the State of Malacca, and between Shapingba District and the city of Malacca.

The two parties will establish a regular exchange mechanism and send representatives to visit each other to exchange in-depth on the experience of constructing historical and cultural blocks. According to the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, the two parties will jointly hold various activities, such as the Chongqing Food Week in Malaysia, to enhance their international influence cooperatively.  (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
