CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The construction of the metal roof of Terminal 3B of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is proceeding on July 18. A new aviation building is emerging as a phoenix with its wings spread. It is reported that the construction project of Terminal 3B and the fourth runway is a significant measure for the airport to implement the No.1 Project of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and build world-class airports in Chengdu and Chongqing.

The construction project of terminal 3B and the fourth runway is rolling full steam

Terminal 3B and Terminal 3A, both of which have an “X” structure, face each other far away and are connected by a domestic mass rapid transit system. As the largest single-building satellite hall in the world, Terminal 3B is designed with a 160,000-square-meter metal roof that looks like waves from the sky. Builders, regardless of the hot weather, were working hard on the east side of the third runway to construct the fourth runway, pushing forward the construction tasks in an orderly manner according to the schedule.

At present, Chongqing Airport Group has completed the steel structure project of Terminal 3B, the earthwork and stone project of the flight area, and the electric vehicle power station project, and finished the completion and acceptance of 13 new aircraft stands of Apron 5 ahead of schedule. The construction of airport electric vehicle exchange station is also finished. The group also finished 25% of the terminal curtain wall project, 60% of the metal roof project, and 40% of the installation project have been completed.

"The entire expansion project will be completed by the end of next year. In October this year, we can put into operation the 715 to 735 aircraft stands and the airport electric vehicle exchange station first," said Ren Yi, deputy general manager of the Terminal Area Project Department of the Airport Expansion Command. After the completion of the project next year, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport will have four runways and four terminals to satisfy the demand for a throughput of 80 million passengers, 580,000 trips, and 1.2 million tons of cargo annually, contributing to the development of Chengdu-Chongqing world-class airports.

Optimize the environment for connecting flights to enhance the passenger experience

It is time-consuming for connecting flight passengers to collect and check in their luggage at a connection airport. Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport launched international connecting flight service on June 27. After that, those booking connecting flights from Chongqing to Rome and Madrid can collect two boarding passes when checking in at the departure station and reach the destination with their luggage automatically transported to the destination. The one-stop solution has enhanced the international transfer experience for 1234 passengers on 12 flight trips.

To enhance the influence of international flights, the airport launched the “5E+” transfer service, putting into use the free lounge of Chongqing Flight Member Service Center to provide those qualified passengers with free overnight hotel accommodation, free lounge, free half-day tour in Chongqing, and other services. To satisfy the demand of passengers, the airport innovatively launched the “Enjoy your first flight trip in Chongqing” service. It can recognize quickly travelers who are coming to Chongqing for the first time and specially label then, offering guidance and help to first-time travelers to ensure a safe and worry-free flight trip for them.

To resume direct flights to Osaka and Qatar

Chongqing Airport Group has vigorously implemented the action plan for “New Hub, New Industry and New Platform", expanded Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, and resumed the five-year plan for international (regional) air routes. Since the implementation of theme education, the airport has launched, resumed, and increased flights to London, Moscow, and Kuala Lumpur. At present, the airport operates 16 international (regional) routes with nearly 80 international flights every week. It has resumed five intercontinental routes from Chongqing to London, Rome, Madrid, Budapest, and Moscow, eight Asian routes from Chongqing to Dubai, Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh and Nha Trang, and three regional routes from Chongqing to Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The airport is working with airlines to resume direct flights from Chongqing to Osaka and Qatar, and to increase direct flights from Chongqing to Singapore.

Efforts were also made to accelerate the construction of an efficient air logistics system while satisfying the passenger demands. At present, the construction of the air cargo station in the Xiyong Comprehensive Protection Zone of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has been completed. The international inbound cargo business of the station was put into trial operation on June 30, which has further improved the efficiency of air freight and the influence of the airport hub, and helped Chongqing to build itself into an international aviation hub leading the opening up of the inland.
