CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The opening ceremony of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games kicked off in the main stadium of Dong’an Lake Sports Park on the evening of July 28, where athletes from Chongqing colleges, students, and Olympic champions turned up. Let's take a look at what Chongqing elements are present at the opening ceremony.

A Chongqing athlete is the flag-bearer leading the Chinese delegation

Guo Hanyu (a student from Southwest University) and Hu Zhenzhuo were the flag-bearers of the Chinese university sports delegation.

“I’m very happy! It’s my honor to be the flag-bearer,” Guo Hanyu said with a smile. It’s her second time participating in the Summer World University Games.

13 selected students of Southwest University and Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences will participate in track and field, tennis, taekwondo, swimming, table tennis, diving, judo, and other events at Chengdu 2021 FISU Games. At the opening ceremony, Chinese women's basketball player Tang Ziting took the oath as the athlete representative. She graduated from Chongqing Nankai Middle School and is currently studying at Beijing Normal University.

The Olympic champion carries the flag of the FISU World University Games

Shi Tingmao, the champion of the double 3-meter springboard and single 3-meter springboard events in the Rio and Tokyo Olympic Games, carried the flag of the FISU World University Games. She is a native of Chongqing studying for her Ph.D. at Southwest University.

Pu Shuying, an excellent youth volunteer and a student of Chongqing University is one of the flag-bearers.

On the day of the opening ceremony, Li Xuerui, the champion of Olympic badminton and associate professor at Chongqing University, posted on Weibo, "Looking forward to the opening ceremony of Chengdu 2021 FISU Games tonight. You are welcome to look for us in front of the TV." Li Xuerui in the photo is youthful, flashing a huge smile.

Li Xuerui participated in Chengdu 2021 FISU Games as the coach for the Chinese badminton team. She is also the first torchbearer of the Universiade torch relay in Chongqing.

The hero captain and graduate of Chongqing University serve as the torchbearer of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games

At the opening ceremony, 31 torchbearers jointly lit the Sun and Immortal Birds, which spiraled and ascended, igniting the 12 golden fireworks in the sky. Ultimately, they ignited the flame tower outside the stadium.

One of the torchbearers is Liu Chuanjian, the hero captain of Chinese civil aviation.

Liu Chuanjian is a native of Chongqing. When a crack appeared in the glass of the right front windshield of Sichuan Airline Flight 3U8633 at a high altitude, Captain Liu Chuanjian and the crew members faced danger fearlessly and saved the life of 128 passengers and crew members on board. This successful emergency landing is known as an epic feat of civil aviation.

Fu Yanbo, a student at Chongqing University as well as the 2022 "Self-improvement Star of Chinese University Students", is one of the torchbearers. “I’m proud to be a torchbearer. During the days of rehearsal with outstanding young representatives from various countries, I have learned much and I feel that we are of one family."
