CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing won its first gold medal at Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games on July 30.

The taekwondo poomsae competition ended on the afternoon of July 30. The Chinese taekwondo team won one gold medal and three silver medals in the two-day competition. The six poomsae competitors in the competition are students of Chongqing Vocational College of Economics and Trade. There are also one team leader and two coaches from Chongqing.

Hu Mingda, Yang Lei, and Liu Si Yue won a silver medal at the men's team poomsae of taekwondo; Liu Yuqing, Liang Jie, and Li Wan won a silver medal at the women’s team poomsae of taekwondo; Hu Mingda won a silver medal at the men’s individual poomsae of taekwondo on July 29.

Besides the gold medal, there is another surprise for Liang Jie – she got proposed by her
boyfriend Hu Mingda at the award ceremony. Liang Jie excitedly said that they met and fell in love because of taekwondo. “I think we won this gold together. It is the result of our joint effort.”

Liu Siyue extended her greatest appreciation to her coach and mother. “My coach has taught me lots of lessons. He advised me to change my techniques at the competition,” said Liu Siyue. My mother planted the seed of a taekwondo dream in my mind when I was young, and she encouraged me to keep at it whenever I wanted to give up. I never thought taekwondo would make my life shine.

Talking about the performance, Zhang said that the men's team was still very good, with strengths on par with the champion. The mixed doubles competition is more about collaboration. Under high pressure, the team members completed the final four consecutive kicks in the air very well.

It is not easy to win a gold medal and three silver medals at the games, said Huang Xiaoling, the deputy leader of the Chinese taekwondo team and the dean of the School of Sports of Southwest University. The competition is extremely fierce. Except for the gold medal in mixed doubles, South Korea took all the gold medals in men's individual, women's individual, men's team, and women's team. Iran, Vietnam, and other national and regional teams are also well-matched. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
