CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The diving events of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games started at the swimming venue of Jianyang Culture and Sports Center on July 31.

Zhang Jiaqi, an Olympic champion, and Zhang Minjie, the winner of the mixed team diving gold medal in the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, achieved a rip entry in the synchronized diving, winning the gold medal of women’s synchronized 10-meter springboard.

The game was not fierce, with only three teams of athletes signing up with it. The team of United States abstained before the game, so Zhang Jiaqi and Zhang Minjie had only one opponent, the team of South Korea.

Zhang Jiaqi and Zhang Minjie came to the competition venue early for warm-up training at four o'clock in the afternoon. Many audiences came to cheer for the Chinese diving team, and some even prepared banners for Zhang Jiaqi and Zhang Minjie.

The game started at five o’clock.

Although there was only one group of opponents, Zhang Jiaqi and Zhang Minjie kept themselves in good form. The coach showed them the video playback after each dive, pointing out their problems, and discussing with them how to make improvements.

In the fourth dive, Zhang Jiaqi and Zhang Minjie completed the highly difficult 407C dive, immersing themselves in the water with barely a bit of splash. Their dives were so synchronized that it seemed from the side view there was only one person diving. The judges were stunned by their performance and thus marked them up.

The audience burst into cheers, and someone exclaimed, “It’s lucky to witness the rip entry.”

With rich experience in international competitions, Zhang Jiaqi is not as nervous as she was in front of cameras.
