CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Walking along the riverbanks and seeing blue sky and white cloud, grass and flowers, citizens may find that Masangxi Bridge and Baijusi Bridge face each other from afar… Recently, Gelaoxi Section of the “two rivers and four banks” governance and upgrading project was completed, and many citizens went to experience the “two rivers and fourbanks” by citywalk.

Gelaoxi Section of the “two rivers and four banks” governance and upgrading project is located on the north bank of the Yangtze River in Dadukou District, Chongqing Municipality, extends to Gelaoxi in the north, Wanfa Pier in the south and Dabin Road - Chengdu-Chongqing Railway Protection Belt in the west, and bank line of the Yangtze River. It is 3.3 kilometers away from Gelaoxi Outfall to Wanfa Pier, covering a total area of 65.4 hectares.

“The vegetation of the former Gelaoxi beach was chaotic, and the hard retaining wall formed by Dabin Road separated the riverfront and the hinterland, forming a negative urban space with fragile ecology, poor accessibility and insufficient vitality,” said Zhou Zhentao who is the designer of the Project Design Institute, namely Chongqing Municipal Research Institute of Design. For the project design, the concept of reducing concrete and increasing green was adopted so as to create an urban landscape integrating ecological, ornamental and tourism aspects.

After the “two rivers and four banks” governance and upgrading project, the current Gelaoxi Section is not “what it used to be”.

There will be more and more places like this. According to Zheng Heping, a staff member of the Promotion Department of Chongqing Housing and Urban-rural Construction Commission, Chongqing has carried out the management and promotion of the “two rivers and four banks” in the central urban area, and implemented a total of 30 projects along the water front of 109km. “Up to now, a total of 26 projects have been started and 11 projects including Jiangbeizui Jiangtan Park and Yabadong Wetland Park have been finished and put into use,” said Zheng Heping. In the second half of this year, a number of projects such as Diaoyuzui Binjiang Section First Phase and Chang’an Pier Section will be completed, providing more waterfront leisure spaces for the public so that they can be attracted, stay behind and have fun.
