CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- “It used to be a vegetable garden; now it’s become a pocket garden ablaze with all kinds of flowers and green plants. I take my grandson here every day.” On August 15, Ms. Li, a resident living in Chunhuilu Sub-district, Daudukou District, told us that the pocket garden has become one of the good places for entertainment to them.

Known as “Shucai Commute”, the pocket garden is located between 60 Songqing Avenue and Jinxing Building in Dadukou District and covers an area of 500 square meters. It is completed and opened to the public at the end of June.

With the theme of the “Shucai Commute” culture, sculptures and paving in the pocket park add zest and cultural charm to it. The park is also equipped with well-developed facilities to satisfy the needs for publicity, leisure and recreation, activities for neighbors, and neighbor exchanges.

When you step into the park and walk along the vegetable-shaped footpath, you will find the park divided into two areas: an exhibition area and an interaction area. The hopscotch court in the exhibition area will summon up memories of childhood pleasures. Scenes of harvest are displayed on Folk Exhibit Wall, which will evoke a sense of period and bring back memories of residents.

In addition to Folk Exhibit Wall and Crop Knowledge Platform, there are Harbor for Laborers, Vegetable-claim Wall, Vegetable & Fruit Plantation in “Shucai Commute”. The park fulfills the requirements for publicity, leisure and recreation, activities for children, and neighbor exchanges.

It’s known that a pocket park is a small green space located in an urban area surrounded by commercial buildings or houses. It beautifies the urban environment and offers a convenient place for the general public to rest.

The number of pocket parks in Chongqing is increasing.

According to the Chongqing Municipal Administration Bureau, Chongqing plans to further expand green urban spaces by promoting the construction of 100 pocket parks in 2023. At present, the pocket park construction is progressing smoothly and has achieved stage results – as of the end of June, 75 of the 100 pocket park projects have started, of which 52 have been completed. 23 projects are going to start. The Chongqing Municipal Administration Bureau will continue to strengthen guidance on the construction of pocket parks, to push forward the completion of the work tasks for the whole year.
