CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The Limit of Heat on August 23, 2023, is the second solar term in autumn, which means the end of heat. Though the hottest days in South China have gone, high temperatures may last for some time. How is the weather in Chongqing in the near future? When will the “true” autumn arrive in Chongqing?

Chengkou was the first to settle into autumn in Chongqing in former years

Other regions saw the beginning of autumn in late September

August 23 marks the Limit of Heat, but the weather remains hot in Chongqing. It’s quite far away from the beginning of autumn in Chongqing.

Real-time monitoring data show that on August 22, the highest temperature in Jiangjin District, Fengdu County, Zhongxian County, Yunyang County, Fengjie County, Wuxi County, Pengshui County, and the central urban area of Chongqing will exceed 37℃. Data from the National Meteorological Observatory of Pengshui County show that the highest temperature will reach 37.8℃. The high temperature will remain for some time, but it’s diminishing.

Meteorologically, when the 5-day mean temperature is less than 22 ℃, the first of the five days will be regarded as the starting date of autumn. If the autumn of a year is more than 15 days earlier than usual, there will be a second judgment. That is, we need to make calculations and conduct verification several more times between the early autumn date and the regular autumn date to determine whether the true autumn has arrived.

According to the data of former years (from 1991 to 2020), autumn started in Chengkou on September 2 (the earliest) and arrived in Wushan on October 1 (the latest). Shapingba usually settles in autumn on September 28, and other urban areas of Chongqing in late September.

Chongqing Climate Center predicts that autumn will begin in late September in most areas of Chongqing. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
