CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On the morning of August 21, West Air flight PN6387 (Chongqing - Korla) took off 56 minutes later and suddenly returned to Chongqing, because a passenger who was about 50 years old on board had a sudden illness, and the crew made an emergency return for valuable treatment and medical time. “Someone rang the cabin bell at that time. I went over and found the passenger in a critical condition with pale face, plummeting body temperature and weak consciousness.” Ying Zhuqing, the flight’s chief steward, recalled that the flight took off from Chongqing at 10:05 on the same day, and about 33 minutes later a passenger who was in the 6th row asked for help, and a 50-year-old man suffered from sudden illness and he took the flight with his wife on the same day.

She immediately reported to the captain and initiated emergency procedures to find paramedics over the onboard announcement. One of the passengers on the flight happened to be a pharmacist, and under guidance, the crew immediately used a medical oxygen bottle to give the passenger oxygen, and covered him with a blanket and a hot towel to keep him warm. The passenger gradually returned to normal body temperature, and his symptoms were relieved to a certain extent, but his pulse was still weak.

The illness cause of the passenger was not clear, the crew on duty considered that such accident may occur again, and immediately submitted an application for alternative landing or return to the AOC in line with the principle of “life first and passengers first”.

Immediately, West Air launched an emergency response, and the departments on duty closely coordinated. After a short ground and air coordination meeting and comprehensive research and judgment, they decided to arrange the flight immediately return to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.

The departments of West Air worked closely and efficiently, contacted the air traffic control unit to coordinate the direct flight, contacted Chongqing Airport to arrange a near bridge parking place and ground emergency aid to the planned parking place to prepare for treatment, and arranged persons to arrive at the gate in advance to cooperate with the medical rescue, and the aircraft crew arrived at the parking place in advance to gain precious time for life treatment.

West Air ground service staff and airport medical staff who had already been waiting at the parking place boarded the plane for the first time to perform transfer treatment and sent the passenger to the hospital for further treatment. At the same time, West Air also arranged for other passengers on the flight to travel smoothly.
