Passenger throughput of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport exceeds 31 million this year

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The accumulated passenger throughput of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport in 2023 exceeded 30 million on September 2, 2023. It has had 220,000 takeoffs and landings and handled 31 million passengers as of September 11, in the front rank of airports in western China.

Since this summer, the flights and passengers of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport have reached record highs. The airport had 58,600 civil flights between July and August, the number of which is 5.1% higher than that of 2019; the airport handled 8,656,000 passengers during the same period, up 8.4% compared to 2019; the number of daily passengers peaked at more than 152,200, a record high.

The tickets for domestic flights to Xinjiang, Tibet, Yunnan, and other traditional tourist destinations were hot-selling this summer, as Chongqing residents preferred to enjoy a wonderful journey in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Yunnan.

The passenger load factors of round-trip flights between Chongqing and coastal cities in East and South China like Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Xiamen remained high. “For one thing, Chongqing residents are enormously enthusiastic about traveling; for another, Chongqing emerging as an 8D magic city has attracted numerous tourists from other cities,” said the official of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.

The airport has resumed 15 international (regional) passenger routes to London, Rome, Madrid, Budapest, and Moscow in Europe, and Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Osaka, and Ho C5h0i Minh in Asia. Qatar Airways will resume direct flights from Chongqing to Doha from September 25, which are available three times a week. The global route network of Qatar Airways will allow Chongqing residents to transit to more than 160 destinations around the world via Doha, satisfying the travel needs of Chongqing residents. Sichuan Airlines will resume routes from Chongqing to Taipei’s Songshan on September 29, operating two to three flights per week. The number of passenger flights between Chongqing and Chinese Taipei will be up to nine per week, offering a convenient travel experience for passengers traveling between Chongqing and Taiwan.
