The 13th Chinese medical aid team head for Papua New Guinea

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The Chongqing Municipal Health Commission held A farewell ceremony for the 13th Chinese medical aid team for Papua New Guinea (PNG) on October 7. The medical aid team includes eight clinicians from the tertiary hospitals in Chongqing.

“We’re firmly believing in ourselves and we will make every effort to fulfill this glorious mission our motherland entrusted to us!" Feng Wubing, the leader of the 13th Chinese medical aid team to PNG, was full of confidence at the farewell ceremony.

Led and sent by the Chongqing Emergency Medical Center, the 13th medical aid team, with an average age of 39.5, consists of eight medical workers from the Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, the Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chongqing Medical and Pharmaceutical College, Chongqing Cancer Hospital, the Ninth People’s Hospital of Chongqing, Chongqing University Three Gorges Hospital, and the Chongqing Municipal Health Service Center.

To support the operation of the China-PNG Friendship Center of Minimally Invasive Surgery, the 13th medical aid team to PNG includes specialists in urology, obstetrics and gynecology, neurosurgery, and hepatobiliary surgery. Besides, it includes an expert in Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Tuina, offering the people of PNG chances to gain an insight into the profound culture of Chinese medicine.

The medical aid team will leave Chongqing for Papua New Guinea to take over the duties of the 12th medical aid team and carry out a one-year national foreign aid mission at Port Moresby General Hospital.

The Chinese medical aid team to PNG is part of the Chinese Free Medical Assistance Project for PNG. Entrusted by the National Health Commission, the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission sent the first medical team to PNG in 2002. It was the first Chinese team to be sent to the South Pacific region. As of September this year, Chongqing has sent 12 medical aid teams to PNG. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
