CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The vertical elevator of the Chaotianmen Bridge across the Yangtze River has been completed and put into use recently, attracting many visitors. It takes only one minute for travelers to reach the bridge from the riverside road. The public spaces under the bridge on both sides are turned into an ecological garden, a fitness trail, and a badminton court.

Chongqing has actively promoted the construction of public spaces on the “two rivers and four banks”, improving the living environment and life quality for Chongqing residents.

Following the vision of “beautifying environments, improving transportation, and increasing coverage”, the Chongqing Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission has started 26 of the 30 Riverside Road Improvement Projects. As of today, 11 public spaces on the “two rivers and four banks” of Chongqing have been completed and opened, including Ciqikou Old Pier, Jiulongtan, Huangshaxi, Panxi River Entrance, Xiangguosi Pier Area, Yabadong Wetland Park, Huaxi River Wetland Park, Shanhu Park, Jiangbeizui Jiangtan Park, the Gelaoxi section of Dabin Road, the Contemporary Art Plaza in Jiulong Peninsula.

Automobiles are speeding in an endless stream along the overpass in the Huangshaxi region in Yuzhong District, while residents are doing sports under the bridge... It has become a common cityscape in Chongqing.

The Huangshaxi Riverside Road Improvement Project, part of the important Improvement of Ten Public Spaces on Four Riverside Roads Project, started construction at the end of 2020. With the title of “Returning to the Yangtze River”, the project aims to restore the ecological diversity of the riverfront. At the same time, the project searches for the cultural connotation and enhances the waterfront quality of the Huangshaxi section of the Yangtze River, so as to create a recreational riverside belt incorporating entertainment, culture, and tourism.

The project is a microcosm of the improved public spaces on the “two rivers and four banks”. These public places reshape the image of the four riverside roads from the aspects of ecology, recreation, and transportation, and provide the residents with pleasant riverside public spaces. The construction of the other 15 riverside spaces is progressing in an orderly manner.

Additionally, we have improved supporting facilities, built 39 new riverside stations and public toilets and ten vertical lifts and escalators, and opened Chaotianmen-Guangyang Island, Chaotianmen-Ciqikou, and other tourism routes to offer a smooth and pleasant travel experience for visitors, according to the Chongqing Municipal Housing and Urban-rural Development Commission.
