CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- During the 6th China International Import Expo, Cushman & Wakefield released the Research Report on Significant Development Opportunities for Western Cities Created by the New Western Land-sea Corridor (2023) on November 8, which demonstrates in an all-rounded way how different provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government strengthen their economic ties and coordinated development through the new western land-sea corridor.

Connecting the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, the new western land-sea corridor has become a significant link between western China and the rest of the world as well as a new economic belt and trade logistics channel for China's opening up to the outside world.

The report shows that the corridor, centered around Chongqing, Chengdu, and Beibu Gulf Port, mainly consists of three railway channels. The middle channel, starting from Chongqing to the estuary of Beibu Gulf (Beibu Gulf Port and Yangpu Port), passes through Guiyang and Nanning. The east channel, starting from Chongqing to the estuary of Beibu Gulf, passes through Huaihua and Liuzhou. The west channel, starting from Chengdu to the estuary of Beibu Gulf, passes through Luzhou (Yibin) and Baise. These main channels offer a wide range of transportation including railway transportation, highway transport, water transport, and air transport.

The report says that the development of the new western land-sea corridor will improve the transport infrastructure in the western region and accelerate the construction and renovation of transport facilities along the corridor.

Leveraging the development opportunities brought by the new western land-sea corridor, Chongqing, the center of operation for the corridor, has actively upgraded its logistics facilities and corridor functions. In recent years, the expansion of the Yuzui Railway Freight Station, the construction of the Wushui Port of the new land-sea corridor, the use of the Lianglu Guoyuan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone, the construction of the Sino-Singapore (Chongqing) Multimodal Intermodal Transport Demonstration Base, and other key projects, have provided a solid foundation for the development of the new western land-sea corridor.

Thanks to the advantages of the new western land-sea corridor, CORNING, the world-renowned manufacturer of special glass and ceramic materials, set up its glass substrate processing factories, western distribution centers for glass substrates, and production lines of fused cast molding in Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing, and its gorilla glass production bases in Chongqing, contributing to the industrial chain layout of the new display industry in Chongqing, said Li Xiaoqiang, Director of the Chongqing Industry Department of Cushman & Wakefield.

As the center of operation for the corridor, Chongqing has been attaching great importance to the construction of the corridor. This March, Chongqing put forward four goals: to build a strategic hub for the great circulation in China and the dual circulation at home and abroad, an important engine for the reform and opening-up in the western region, an important gateway for the international economic and trade cooperation in the western region and an element resources distribution center oriented to the ASEAN market.

At the same time, Chongqing will achieve five new breakthroughs in the logistics and transportation capacity of the corridor, the coordinated economic development of regions along the corridor, the trade scale of the corridor, the service efficiency of the corridor, and the integration of internal and external resources empowered by digital development. From January to September this year, Chongqing transported 126,000 TEUs of goods through the new western land-sea corridor, up 19 percent year on year. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
