CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing, a city of mountains and rivers, is an international comprehensive transport hub in western China. The unique terrain of Chongqing poses higher requirements for the construction of a diversified, multi-level, smoothly connecting, and comprehensive transport system.

In recent years, Chongqing has presented a series of representative demonstration cases of the development of a multi-level rail transit system, according to the Chongqing Municipal Development and Reform Commission.

The first double-system train

Jiangtiao Line to be operated with Line 5

It’s learned that the Jiangtiao Line (from Jiangjin to Tiaodeng) will be operated with Line 5 this year, which is of pioneering, ground-breaking, and exemplary significance in the field of rail traffic in China.

With double current systems (AC and DC power supply systems), Jiangtiao Line covers a length of 28km and has six stations, with an average station spacing of 4.39 kilometers and a maximum operating speed of 120km/h. It takes 28 minutes for the train of the line to run from Jiangjin to Tiaodeng. The line mainly uses elevated and ground lines. The total investment in the line amounts to CNY 8,704,000,000, an average of CNY 300,000,000. Jiangtiao Line will enable passengers to reach the downtown area from the suburbs without transferring and reduce the travel time by 10 to 15 minutes.

As the first line equipped with double-system trains in China, Jiangtiao Line has made breakthroughs in several key technologies, such as automatic AC/DC switching and automatic switching of the ratio of the weight carried by the powered axle to the weight carried by the unpowered axle under different power supply systems, and achieved the safe operation of the same train on two lines using different power supply systems.

The successful application of the project has filled the domestic gap, enhanced China's technological advantages in the field of double-system rail transit, provided successful cases of the operation of suburban railways and urban rail transit for major metropolitan areas, and become a typical case of the integrated development of multi-level rail transit.

The first station-city integration TOD project in China

Shapingba Railway Hub offers six modes of transportation

Chongqing Shapingba Railway Hub, previously an old railway station, is now a multi-level urban transport hub offering six modes of transport such as high-speed railway, rail transit, bus, taxi, and online car rental. It is the first station-city integration TOD project in China as well as an innovative demonstration project of the integrated development of four networks and the intensive use of land in Chongqing.

There are six modes of transport for passengers within 50 meters (two minutes' walk) for passengers in Chongqing Shapingba Railway Hub, which is an example of a people-oriented vision and smooth connection for passengers. The transport hub has formed a multi-level and convenient transport transfer system incorporating the Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway, four CRT lines, 23 bus lines, taxis, social vehicles, and other modes of transport, as well as clear guide signs, effectively enhancing the passenger transfer experience.
