CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- From November 1 to November 11, 2023, postal and express delivery enterprises across the country received 5.264 billion parcels, up 23.22 percent year-on-year, including 639 million parcels received on November 11 (up 15.76%), according to the State Post Bureau.

According to the statistics of the Chongqing Municipal Postal Administration, express delivery enterprises in Chongqing handled 165 million parcels during the period from October 31 to November 10.

On November 11, postal express enterprises in Chongqing handled a total of 16.4947 million express parcels, setting another record high. Of these parcels, 7.8567 million were collected and 8.638 million were delivered, up more than 70% year-on-year. The second wave of parcel delivery peak is expected to occur on November 13.

The express delivery industry has entered the peak season since November 1, which is expected to last 102 days and end on the eve of the 2024 Spring Festival, the Chongqing Municipal Postal Administration said on November 11.

Express delivery companies were working overtime to cope with the peak hours. In the express transfer centers of J&T Express, ZTO Express, and YTO Express, every sorting line is working at full capacity with the conveyor belts transferring the parcels which are then sorted, loaded into trucks, and sent to different places.

"For parcels from all over the country, the minimum detention time from unloading to sorting to delivery shall be less than 15 minutes," said Dai Yanning, Assistant to the General Manager of the Chongqing Management Center of ZTO Express. She added that they focus on speed this year. Chongqing ZTO Express is equipped with the newest and fastest small express automatic sorting machines this year, which greatly improve the daily processing capacity.

Ordinary sorting machines transmit parcels at a maximum speed of less than two meters per second, handling up to about four million parcels a day. In comparison, the new machine can reach up to 3.5 meters per second and process up to eight million parcels a day, said Dai Yanning. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
