CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Affected by the cold front moving southward, Chongqing saw drastic temperature drops and rainfall from November 11 to November 13, with the average daily temperature dropping by 5 to 7℃ in most areas, and 8 to 10℃ in some eastern places. It was snowing in some high-altitude areas in the northeast of Chongqing. Do these significant temperature drops in the past three days mean winter has arrived in Chongqing? We’ve interviewed Li Qiang, chief forecaster of the Chongqing Meteorological Station in this regard.
Because of the high temperatures some time ago, the active Siberia cold front moved southward, bringing drastic temperature drops in most parts of the country, including Chongqing, said Li Qiang. Before this wave of temperature drops, the average temperature in Chongqing had been 20℃; in comparison, the average temperature in downtown Chongqing dropped to 10℃ on the morning of November 13. Compared with other regions in China, Chongqing's temperature drop is not particularly large. After a journey, the cold front arriving in Chongqing has become weak.
Despite the significant temperature drops, it’s not winter yet in Chongqing. Meteorologically, when the five-day mean temperature is less than 10℃, the first of the five days will be regarded as the starting date of winter, said Li Qiang. The current temperature condition in Chongqing has not reached the standard yet.
Li Qiang added that the temperature drops and rainfall will last until November 16, after which the temperature will gradually rise to 20℃, and most areas in Chongqing will see cloudy to sunny days. Another rainfall is expected in some areas in Chongqing at the end of November. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
