Come and appreciate the beauty of the Yangtze River at this exhibition

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On January 8, Along the Way from the Yangtze River – the themed artworks exhibition of National Cultural Park of Southwest University, opened at the Wang Qi Art Museum.

The nearly 100 works on display, covering various art forms such as traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, comprehensive materials, watercolor, etc., are the artistic creations of recording and eulogizing the Yangtze River that have emerged from the School of Fine Arts of Southwest University in the course of nearly one hundred years of talent cultivation, presenting the changes in the Yangtze River Basin in a holographic way and the continuous development of the Yangtze River’s culture in multiple dimensions.

It is worth mentioning that among the exhibited works, there are masterpieces by famous masters throughout history such as Liu Yiceng, Su Baozhen, Li Jike, Duan Xugu, Liang Baiyun, Liu Yugeng, Zhong Dingqiang, etc., as well as the works to express the current Yangtze River culture in an artistic way by teachers and students.

"This work, called 'Memories of the Yangtze River', is a huge colored woodcut that I have conceived for more than 20 years and then spent over 10 years creating,” introduced Dai Zhengsheng, a professor of the School of Fine Arts of Southwest University, hoping that it will evoke a cherished reverence for the culture of the Yangtze River Basin.

"This work of mine, is derived from the Xiaoxiang Painting by Dong Yuan, a landscape painter in the Five Dynasties period, depicting the scenery along the banks of the Yangtze River," said Liu Guanru, a teacher of the School of Fine Arts of Southwest University. "I created a positive and negative contrast for it to showcase and inherit ancient classic culture with the elements of ancient paintings and modern techniques."

Duan Yundong, dean of the School of Fine Arts of Southwest University, introduced that among the exhibited works, there are also works that exhibited in the National Art Exhibition in 1954. "The Yangtze River has nurtured Chinese civilization, and we also hope to take this exhibition as an opportunity to present a number of iconic and excellent artworks around the country’s construction of the National Cultural Park of Yangtze River," he said.
