CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The founding conference of Chongqing’s sports delegation for the 14th National Winter Games of the People’s Republic of China was held at the 2024 Chongqing Sports Work Conference on January 11. Chongqing will send 151 athletes to participate in eight sports including skating, skiing, biathlon, curling, ice hockey, snowmobile, sledge, and ski mountaineering, said the conference.

The 14th National Winter Games will be in line with international standards to benchmark the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics. There will be eight sports, 16 disciplines, and 176 events, which makes it the national winter games with the largest scale, the most events, and the highest standards.

It will be the first time for Chongqing athletes to participate in the National Winter Games in groups. Chongqing will send 151 athletes to participate in eight sports, including skating, skiing, biathlon, curling, ice hockey, snowmobile, sledge, and ski mountaineering, of which 137 athletes have been qualified to participate in the formal competitions of the 14th National Winter Games, 73 athletes of the open group will take part in 26 events (of 10 disciplines of 8 sports) under the leadership of the Winter Olympics champion Wang Qiang, and 64 athletes of the youth group will compete in 10 events (of 5 disciplines of 4 sports).

According to the arrangement of the 14th National Winter Games, some of the events have started in advance. Chongqing’s athlete Tan Yinghui won a bronze medal in the snowmobile open.
