CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Little New Year (called “Xiao Nian” in Chinese) falls on the 23rd day of lunar December in northern China and the 24th day of lunar December in southern China, which has been one of the most important traditional Chinese festivals since ancient times. From Little New Year, people start to prepare for the coming of the Spring Festival.

Meixin Wine Town in Fuling, Chongqing, will host the fourth Spring Festival Cultural Event - Little New Year on February 2, offering chances for visitors to experience the traditional culture of Chinese New Year and the cheerful festive atmosphere in Chongqing.

It is customary to offer sacrifices to Kitchen God in the Little New Year, which expresses people's good wishes for the new year. The fourth Spring Festival Cultural Event - Little New Year in Meixin Wine Town will begin with a sacrificing ceremony, allowing visitors to witness and experience this custom. Besides, visitors can taste “Chai Huo chicken” (chicken cocked by firewood) raised in the scenic spot while drinking in the tranquil and peaceful rural scenery in winter.

During the event, Meixin Wine Town and Fuling Library will invite calligraphers and international students to make Chinese and English New Year couplets, which will be given away to visitors. At the same time, the Fuling Culture Center will host an exhibition of paintings for the Year of Dragon, which will last until the Spring Festival holiday and exhibit a great variety of interesting New Year’s paintings for free.

The New Year’s Fair of Intangible Cultural Heritage Goods will start in Meixin Wine Town, where the Employment Assistance Workshop of Meixin Wine Town will launch auspicious noodles and a variety of specialties to celebrate the Spring Festival. What’s more, intangible cultural heritage goods and specialties, agricultural products, dried fruits, snacks, daily necessities, and New Year's souvenirs will be available at the fair to offer one-stop shopping.

The fourth Spring Festival Cultural Event - Little New Year will be available until February 24, the Lantern Festival. Meixin Wine Town will host the Spring Festival Concert, Dragon Year Lighting Exhibition, Spring Festival Temple Fair, and Lantern Festival and offer special discounts to celebrate the Spring Festival and allow residents to immerse in a cheerful festive atmosphere and experience Bayu culture.
