Chongqing railway stations expect to make 7.7 million passenger trips during the Spring Festival travel rush this year. During this period, Chongqing railway stations will take measures to ensure safe and smooth travel for passengers.

Chongqing railway stations estimate that they will make 7.7 million passenger trips (daily average of 192,500) during the Spring Festival travel rush, an increase of 898,000 passengers (13.2%) compared with the 2023 Spring Festival. It is expected that the passenger flow will peak at 268,000 on or around February 26.

The 2024 Spring Festival falls on February 10, 19 days later compared to the 2023 Spring Festival. Since the 2024 winter vacation of major universities and colleges in Chongqing started in the second ten days of January, students, workers, and visitors will constitute most of the traffic during the Spring Festival travel rush. Therefore, the passenger flow of high-speed trains will slightly increase during the Spring Festival holiday.

As the start time of colleges and universities is close to the end of the Spring Festival travel rush, the returning visitors, workers, and students may stagger their travel periods, and traffic may be normal after the Spring Festival.

To satisfy the travel needs of passengers during the Spring Festival holiday, Chongqing railway stations will run 362 pairs of high-speed trains before the holiday, including 156 pairs in Chongqingxi, 218.5 pairs in Chongqingbei, 16 pairs in Shapingba, and two pairs in Jiangbei Airport; after the Spring Festival, there will be 357 pairs of high-speed trains, including 155 pairs in Chongqingxi, 214.5 pairs in Chongqingbei, 16 pairs in Shapingba, and two pairs in Jiangbei Airport.

During the Spring Festival travel rush, Chongqing railway stations will, based on the travel demand of passengers, enhance overall transport capacity and relieve the incremental pressure on the high-speed rail during the daytime by operating night-time high-speed trains.

It is worth mentioning that this year's Spring Festival travel rush allows passengers to re-book their tickets for other passenger trains within 48 hours before train departure or during the presale period after train departure, and charges the corresponding service fee according to the time limit, to improve the experience of ticket changing service for passengers.
