CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group completed an investment of 40 billion yuan and handled 2.8 billion passenger trips in 2024, said the company on February 1.

In 2023, Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group made continuous efforts to improve the quality of public transport service and increase the proportion of public transport use. Statistics show that Chongqing’s public transport handled 2.667 billion passenger trips throughout the year, with an average of 7.306 million passenger trips per day; rail transit travel accounted for 51.5% of public transport use, up 6.1% year-on-year.

Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group will step up efforts to develop satisfactory modern urban transportation in 2024. To be specific, the company will accelerate the construction of 262-kilometer rail projects, promote the construction of transportation hubs and stations, and strive to complete the civil engineering projects of 15 roads at Chongqingdong Station, the second phase expansion project of the Chongqing Vocational College of Public Transportation, and the construction of six bus stops within 2024.

At the same time, the company will focus on the planning of major projects, step up the commencement of eight bus stop construction projects, and promote research on the fifth phase of rail transit construction planning.

Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group will improve the bus operation service by increasing the effectiveness of service, optimizing more than 40 bus routes, opening no fewer than ten new minibus loop routes, and increasing the coverage of public transport in the newly built areas and sub-branch roads with high passenger traffic in Chongqing. Besides, the company will increase the coach number of Line 2 and Line 3 to eight from four and six respectively to raise the proportion of public transport use.

Efforts will be made to promote the introduction of inspection exemption for passengers who transfer between Shapingba Station and railway stations, and the coordination between rail transit and various modes of transport such as walking, motor vehicles, and railways; the development of tourism buses, special buses, and alley buses; the building of rail transit brand; the operation of rail stations in communities; and the integrated development of public transport and tourism.

The company will accelerate the replacement of old bus vehicles; strengthen the maintenance of track equipment and facilities, deepen the elderly-friendly bus service, and upgrade the function of over 20 rail stations to offer a more convenient travel experience for the public.

Additionally, the company will promote the digital transformation of public transport by persisting in green and low-carbon development, accelerating the upgrading of new energy buses and cabs, pushing forward the development of public transportation carbon emission reduction projects and emission reduction trading pilot projects, promoting innovative pilot projects for rail noise prevention and control so as to quickly gain experience for promotion and application.
