CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Baijusi Yangtze Bridge has been a popular tourist attraction for its unique shape of the piers and magnificent structures that produce the scenes in “Interstellar”.

Most of the bridges in the ‘8D magical city’ are must-visit spots. Designated as the Bridge Capital in China by the Bridge Committee of the Mao Yi-sheng Science and Technology Education Foundation, Chongqing is home to more than 16,000 bridges, of which 50 bridges have been open to traffic in downtown Chongqing, said the Chongqing Municipal Housing and Urban-rural Development Commission. There are few other cities in China having as many Bridges as Chongqing.

Thanks to the unique terrain of Chongqing and the inventiveness of bridge designer, Chongqing bridges have long been world-famous for their practicality and gorgeous appearance.

For example, Hongyancun Jialing River Bridge is called ‘the gate of Chongqing’ and ‘the eye of Chongqing’ because of the O-shaped hollowed-out abutment; the Zengjiayan Jialing River Bridge connecting Beibin Road and Zhongshan 4th Road is a good photo opportunity; the Caijia Jialing Railway Bridge, along which the train of Line 6 runs through cloud and mist, form a picturesque and fairytale scenery.

Making use of elements like hills, water, cities, and bridges, Chongqing strives to build an attractive city of bridges and a spectacular city near the river.

The white light makes Nanjimen Railway Bridge look like the beautiful string of the Moon at night; the harp-shaped Qiansimen Jialing River Bridge and Dongshuimen Yangtze River Bridge form the ‘twin river bridges’... Each bridge in downtown Chongqing has its uniqueness and prominence, showcasing the prosperity and romance of the city.

As a ‘tourist-friendly’ city, Chongqing not only closed the Qiansimen Bridge to provide tourists with a better view of the city but also made continuous efforts to improve the accessibility of bridges. To offer safe and pleasant tours of bridges and make the city landscape more attractive, Chongqing has implemented a series of cross-river bridge quality enhancement projects, such as ‘City’s Balcony: Qainsimen Bridge’ project, ‘Space under Chaotianmen Bridge’ project, and the installation of escalators and vertical elevators for Dongshuimen Bridge.

To offer spectacular night views of Chongqing at the world level, Chongqing has also worked on decorative lighting for bridges. Today, all bridges within a 2.8-kilometer radius of ‘the two rivers and four banks’ have been decorated with 3,550 sets of lighting; the lighting of Caiyuanba Bridge, Huanghuayuan Bridge, Cuntan Bridge, and other cross-river Bridges has also been tested, which will make Chongqing sparkling and fill the city with cheerful festive atmosphere.
