The first train on new western land-sea corridor was ready for its maiden voyage.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On February 29th, accompanied by the sound of a whistle, a train loaded with six 40-foot containers, carrying medicinal materials, glass fiber products, canned food, tires, and other goods, slowly departed from the freight yard at Qianjiang Station on the Chongqing-Huaihua Railway. The shipment is destined for export to Malaysia, Vietnam, and other countries through Qinzhou Port in Guangxi. This marks the inaugural run of the first train on the New western land-sea corridor from Qianjiang, signifying the successful completion and launch of the expansion and reconstruction project for the 4.5 million-ton railway freight yard at Qianjiang Station.

The commencement of this train service marks the end of an era in Qianjiang, Chongqing, where there was previously no international trade train. This development has played a pivotal role in expediting the release of the synergistic effect of "channel + trade + industry" in the southeast region of Chongqing, and is expected to propel the Qianjiang area towards establishing an integrated logistics hub and a new model of external connectivity, significantly contributing to the economic and social advancement of the Wuling Mountain area and the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Dual-Core Economic Circle. The newfound accessibility for the export of bulk commodities from southeast Chongqing to Southeast Asian countries has shortened transportation distances, substantially reducing costs, providing robust support for enterprises in the region to efficiently sell and transport bulk commodities to other regions.

“Now, Qianjiang Station has evolved into a fresh hub for direct international trains. The entire process, from loading and unloading to delivery, requires just a single procedure, trimming transit transportation time by approximately one day and significantly cutting down the transportation costs for enterprises”, remarked Duan Haisheng, the freight director at Xiushan Station of Fuling Locomotive Depot under the Chengdu Bureau of China Railway.

According to reports, the freight yard at Qianjiang Station, the departure point of the inaugural train, now serves as the origin of a novel western land-sea channel in the southeastern region of Chongqing.

Qianjiang Station's freight yard, upon its expansion and reconstruction, has expanded by 14,680 square meters. The loading and unloading line has grown by an additional 500 meters, building upon the original 850-meter arrival and departure line, and a gantry crane has been incorporated. The designed loading and unloading capacity now stands at 800,000 tons per year, with the potential to reach a maximum of 1 million tons per year, equipped to handle the loading, unloading, storage, and delivery of 20-foot, 40-foot, and 35-ton general boxes simultaneously.
