CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- During the Spring Festival travel rush ending on March 5, Chongqing accomplished 29.8973 million passenger trips, up 26.64% from last year, said Chongqing Municipal Transportation Commission on March 5.

Specifically, during the Spring Festival travel rush, Chongqing railways completed 13,548,800 passenger trips, up 27.35% from last year; Chongqing road transport made 11,688,500 passenger trips, up 10.8%  from last year; Chongqing water transport handled 1,652,500 passenger trips, up 28.39% from last year; Chongqing civil aviation accomplished 3,007,500 passenger trips, up 28.99% from last year; and the highway traffic flow reached 55.704 million, up 5.58% from last year.

With the change in the structure of travel modes, railways, water transport, and civil aviation have seen a significant increase in the volume of passengers. The traffic volume of highways hit a new high, reaching a peak of 2.3218 million vehicles on February 13 (the fourth day of the first lunar month).

During the Spring Festival, Chongqing strengthened transport capacity by arranging 16,000 passenger vehicles, 500 emergency vehicles, 400 ferries and passenger ferries, one emergency ferry, 15,000 regular public buses, 60,000 taxis (including online car-hailing service), and 371 urban rail transit trains. In response to the delay and suspended operations of trains and other situations, Chongqing increased online car-hailing services and the number of buses to effectively ease the crowds.

During the Spring Festival travel rush, public transport in downtown Chongqing served 270 million person-time accumulatively. Specifically, buses accomplished 122 million passenger trips; the rail transit system made 148 million trips accumulatively, which accounted for 54.8% of the passenger trips made by public transport.

To ensure safe and smooth travel, Chongqing has held ‘A Journey of Love’ activity to improve the quality of public travel service. A mechanism for information sharing and transport capacity has been established for railway, highway, water transport, air transport, and urban transport. Measures have been taken to strengthen the scheduling of trains to ease the passenger crowds who arrive at night.

Chongqing also carried out the ‘Spring Breeze Action’, ‘Spring Warmth for Migrant Workers’, and other special activities, opening more than 700 direct trains for over 38,000 migrant workers.

What’s more, Chongqing organized more than 8,600 couriers and 891 trains and operated 13 distribution centers and 3,345 courier service stations to ensure smooth delivery during the Spring Festival holiday. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
