CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- China-Europe Railway Express (Chengdu-Chongqing) had more than 5,300 trains in operation in 2023, with the number of transported containers exceeding 430,000 TEUs, ranking first in China in both figures, said the Chongqing Port and Logistics Office.

As a flagship project and iconic brand for jointly building the Belt and Road initiative, China-Europe Railway Express (Chengdu-Chongqing) has explored and brought forth new ideas for increasing transport routes and enhancing transport capacity, opening up new channels for land transport and economic and trade cooperation between Asia and Europe, and injecting strong impetus into the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.

Since 2021, when Chongqing and Sichuan initiated an inter-provincial cooperation mechanism for joint consultation and sharing, the China-Europe Railway Express has achieved rapid growth in the freight transport scale and the equilibrium of inbound and outbound trips, remaining the first in China in terms of the comprehensive operation index for a long time.

Over the past three years, the China-Europe Railway Express (Chengdu-Chongqing) has operated over 15,000 trains and transported nearly 1.3 million standard containers of goods and over ten thousand types of imported and exported commodities. It boasts the largest and the most balanced number of trains, the highest value of goods transported, the best structure of goods supply, the most extensive regional cooperation, and the most stable transportation in China.

China-Europe Railway Express (Chengdu-Chongqing) has also achieved many breakthroughs in innovative operation, which provides reference and demonstration for the China-Europe railway in China. For example, the company has explored property rights in railway bill of lading, run international railway transport and postal services, launched the ‘Railway Express’ mode, and promoted ‘freight loans’ for China-Europe freight trains. Experiences and practices such as the full service of China-Laos railway in Chengdu and Chongqing, the ‘Railway Express’ mode, participation in the development of new rules for international railway transport and postal services, and the promotion of railway bill of lading financing and settlement have been selected as the best practice cases in the demonstrative construction of the comprehensive pilot program for extending and opening up the national service industry.
