CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On March 20, coinciding with the spring equinox of the 24 solar terms, in Chongqing Banan Tongluoshan Tiantangbao, the reporter saw that the site of “Longzhouwan Honglu Mine Geological Environment Restoration and Comprehensive Treatment Phase II” had become a sea of flowers.

The 180mu of rape flowers formed due to mine ecological restoration attracted a large number of tourists to take pictures, and the improvement of the ecological environment drove the surrounding people to make more incomes through catering and service, and laid a good foundation for the project to explore the value transformation means and drive the development of the surrounding areas.

According to Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, the project is a typical centralized and contiguous abandoned mining area in Banan District, involving 6 abandoned mines covering an area of 618mu, adjacent to the local rural populated areas.

Under the overall guidance of Chongqing Municipal Bureau for Planning and Natural Resources, Banan Bureau for Planning and Natural Resources Bureau successfully declared Longzhouwan Honglu Mine Geological Environment Restoration and Comprehensive Treatment Project to be one of the first batch of pilot projects of Chongqing Municipality for geological environment restoration and comprehensive treatment of historical mines in accordance with the overall planning, site-specific and integrated development concept, and then carried out the governance and management.

“The entire project mine area has exposed bedrocks, unstable slope heights, and severely damaged ecosystems,” said the relevant person in charge of Banan Bureau for Planning and Natural Resources. In accordance with the mine management and design concept of “elimination of geological safety hazards, pit residue abatement, habitat improvement and integration of industrial development”, the Bureau provided nearly 2 million cubic meters of abandoned soil abatement services, relieved the pressure of urban land disposal nearby, promoted urban renewal, and designed and planted rapeseed flowers with economic and ornamental value in the reclaimed mine pits, promoting local villagers to realize employment and increase income in the project construction and subsequent operation of countryside tourism.

Good ecological environment is the most popular welfare of people’s livelihood. Under the joint efforts of the planning and natural resources departments at both urban and rural levels, a number of historical abandoned mines, including Yubei Tongluoshan Mine Park, Jiulongpo Mine Pit No. 38 and Longzhouwan Honglu Mine, have been magnificently “transformed” into places for citizens to relax and unwind.
