CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- What's the "Scan Your Palm to Enter the Station" Experience like? Recently, the reporter learned from Intel that, in collaboration with its ecosystem partners, they have developed an intelligent Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system for urban rail transit. This system integrates palm vein feature recognition technology for scenes of urban rail transit, and is currently being tested and implemented in Chongqing Rail Transit Line 18.

Similar to facial recognition and fingerprint recognition, palm vein recognition is a form of biometric technology. Prior to using the palm vein ticket checking system for the first time, users must register their palm vein texture features on the server in advance. To do so, the user simply needs to place their palm above the collector for more than ten seconds. After a secondary verification process to ensure the accuracy of the information, the palmprint entry is completed.

A few days ago, a palm vein ticket checking system gate was installed for testing at Jin'aoshan Station on Line 18. According to instructions, users placed their palm approximately 8 cm above the identification area, after which the gate automatically opens instantly.

It is revealed that palm vein feature recognition holds promising applications within the AFC system. In contrast to traditional verification methods, palm vein feature recognition offers greater efficiency, effectively addressing potential issues such as unstable mobile phone networks and power outages, common with technologies like two-dimensional code recognition. Additionally, it mitigates the risks associated with QR code theft, thus enhancing the security of users' funds.

However, the "palm vein" entry method for accessing the station is not yet available to the general public. Currently, the palm vein ticket checking system remains in the testing and application phase, restricted to internal employees of rail transit enterprises and personnel from relevant units providing services for rail transit free of charge. It is not accessible to passengers at this stage. (Translated by Wang Zhong, Fathom Language Limited)
