CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Data from Qunar.com shows that Chongqing was on the list of top ten popular destinations in China during the Qingming Festival holiday.

Chongqing has received 783,200 overnight visitors during the Qingming Festival holiday as of 18:00 on April 18, up 69.8% from last year, according to Chongqing Municipal Culture and Tourism Commission. 130 key tourist attractions in Chongqing received a total of 2,457,000 visitors.

Red tourism and urban tours continued to gain popularity

Memorial ceremonies were held in several red tourism attractions in Chongqing to pay tribute to revolutionary martyrs during the Qingming Festival holiday. The three-day holiday saw 123,000 visitors to Gele Mountain Martyrs' Cemetery, 29,000 visitors to Yang Shangkun’s Former Residence Exhibition Hall, and 18,000 visitors to Tongliang Qiu Shaoyun's Memorial Hall.

Urban tours gained popularity during the holiday: Ciqikou Ancient Town received 314,000 tourists, Hongyadong received 263,000 tourists, Chongqing Zoo received 87,000 tourists, and the Yangtze River Cableway received 39,000 tourists.

Chongqing’s 5A tourist attractions remain the first choice for inter-provincial tours and group tours. To be specific, Wulong Karst Tourism Area received 129,000 tourists, Youyang Taohuayuan received 66,000 tourists, Qianjiang Zhuoshui received 39,000 tourists, Fengjie White Emperor City Qutang Gorge received 29,000 tourists, Jiangjin Simian Mountain received 28,000 tourists, and Dazu Stone Carving received 25,000 tourists.

Fun outdoor activities make the countryside a magnet for tourists

During the Qingming Festival holiday, the orders for local tours and nearby tours increased by 211% and 350% year-on-year, and residents in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen, and Chongqing preferred to spend their holidays within the city; driven by the tradition of returning to hometowns to pay tribute to the deceased, the orders for countryside tours increased by 239% year-on-year, according to the ‘2024 Qingming Festival Holiday Travel Report’ released by Ctrip on April 6.

On the first day of the Qingming Festival holiday, ticket bookings for scenic spots in Chongqing rose by 1.3 times year-on-year, with rural tours particularly popular. For example, tens of thousands of cherry blossoms attracted many tourists to Daguan Town in Nanchuan District, and the luxuriance of tea bushes in Banan Dingxin Tea Garden offered visitors an immersive experience of picking tea in spring.

Mexin Wine Town in Fuling District also experienced a travel peak on the Qingming Festival holiday. The spring cableway tour route launched by the scenic spot offered tourists a magnificent view of spring in the Agricultural Tourism Integration Demonstration Area in Paotong Village, which is more than 600 meters above sea level. Some tourists stated that the scenic spot is a good destination for fun entertainment activities and natural beauties. Statistics show that Mexin Wine Town received 200,000 visitors during the three-day holiday.
