CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The latest progress has been made in the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) between Terminal T3A and Terminal T3B at Chongqing Jiangbei Airport, and in the future, “mini-trains” will provide shuttle service for passengers between the two terminals.

On April 9, the reporter learned from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport that a straddle-type monorail is currently under construction between Terminal T3A and T3B at Jiangbei International Airport for connection. The first track beam has been in place in the operation and maintenance center of MRT, marking that passenger MRT has entered the stage of equipment installation. After the establishment of the passenger MRT, it will take only 3 minutes for passengers to shuttle between from terminal T3A to terminal T3B by taking “mini-trains”.

It is reported that the terminal T3B at Chongqing Jiangbei Airport under construction, covering a building area of approximately 360,000 square meters, mainly composed of a main corridor and four branch corridors, is currently the largest single "satellite lobby" in the world in terms of throughput. It will further extend the functions of the terminal building of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, with functional areas mainly including domestic departures, domestic arrivals, domestic transshipment, etc. In addition to T3A, more parking positions and departure gates has been added. In the future, passengers will check in and undergo security checks at Terminal T3A, but they need to take “mini-trains” to Terminal T3B for boarding.

It is reported that 2024 is the "year of completion of the main body" of the Chongqing Airport Phase V expansion project. As one of the core projects of the Chongqing Airport Phase V expansion project, the fourth runway has also been fully connected and entered the stage of installation of navigation lighting equipment. The fourth runway project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June, to receive acceptance in August, and to be ready for operation by the end of this year.
