CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In the first quarter of 2024, a total of 50,000 TEUs were transported along the New Western Land-sea Corridor by three major transport modes, up 39% from last year; the value of goods was about 9.2 billion yuan, up 54% from last year. Among them, 44,450 TEUs were transported by railway-sea intermodal transport trains along the New Western Land-sea Corridor, up 42.66% from last year; the value of goods was about 6.989 billion yuan, up 81.78% from last year.

The strenuous efforts made by all districts and counties of Chongqing are an important reason why the New Western Land-sea Corridor has increased greatly in transport volume and goods value in the first quarter.

Chongqing has formulated relevant policies or measures based on specific conditions of certain areas so that various districts and counties of Chongqing can play a more effective role in developing the New Western Land-sea Corridor.

On February 29, 2024, Qianjiang opened trains for the New Western Land-sea Corridor for the first time, offering better logistics options to Southeast Chongqing's bulk commodity exports to Southeast Asia and other regions. On March 30, Fuling started the operations of the New Western Land-sea Corridor rail-sea intermodal transport trains for the first time, which facilitates Chongqing’s exports of automobile spare parts, chemical products, and other goods to India, Vietnam, Peru, and other countries.

The breakthrough in the categories of goods is another reason why Chongqing has made a good start in the development of the New Western Land-sea Corridor.

Since the beginning of 2024, the number of intelligent terminals and other products transported along the New Western Land-sea Corridor has significantly increased. In the first quarter of 2024, the corridor shipped ¥150 million worth of laptop products, more than the total shipments of last year.

Besides, Chongqing started to export various characteristic agricultural products through the New Western Land-sea Corridor in the first quarter of 2024. The special China-Laos cross-border train for pre-fabricated cuisine made its first trip along the New Western Land-sea Corridor on February 24, exporting traditional Chongqing dishes such as fish-flavored shredded pork with pickled cabbage, and braised pork head to Laos and Thailand.

Additionally, Chongqing continued to innovatively empower the construction of the New Western Land-sea Corridor. In early April, the Bank of Chongqing started implementing the ‘one-bill system’ for intermodal transport of the New Western Land-sea Corridor, which supported Chongqing’s companies in importing bulk commodities from Pakistan and enterprise financing.
