CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On April 23, according to Chongqing Real Estate Group Co., Ltd., Qixinggang Green Energy Low-carbon Center has started the preliminary work, and it is expected to be put into operation in this year. It is reported that the Center will be built with a “green + intelligent + low-carbon” new energy vehicle service complex integrating ultra-fast charging of more than 480 kilowatts, photovoltaic, energy storage, intelligent parking, two-way charging and discharging functions.

Since April, we had heard endless news that Chongqing is speeding up the construction of new energy vehicles convenient supercharging facilities.

A supercharging station, equipped with at least one supercharging gun with a single power of not less than 480 kilowatts, and a complete set of charging equipment with a certain number of fast-charging guns with a single power of not less than 180 kilowatts, is much more efficient compared with the existing fast charging comparison. “Super-charging” network becomes more and more dense, and Chongqing is speeding up the construction of the domestic first-class convenient super-charging city.

Various investors are accelerating the layout of supercharging stations in Chongqing

At around 10:00 on 21 April, about 20 electric vehicles were charging at the Intelligent Super-charging Demonstration Station located on Meiye Road, Nan’an District. This station can be available for 28 new energy vehicles at the same time. “It takes less than 20 minutes to charge my vehicle from 20% to 90%. However, it took more than an hour to do so in the past.” said Mr. Li, an electric vehicle owner.

This is the first intelligent supercharging station integrating ultra-fast charging, discharging, photovoltaic, energy storage, and vehicle display functions. The reporter learnt on the spot that 3 liquid-cooled super-charging spaces were installed in the station, and a new energy super-charging vehicle could have an endurance mileage of 300km after charging for 5 minutes.

Now, more and more investors are speeding up the layout of supercharging stations in Chongqing. Super charging stations are “blooming everywhere” due to the strong market demand. According to the data of Chongqing Economic and Information Commission, in 2023, the number of new energy vehicles produced and sold in Chongqing exceeded 500,000, and the number of vehicle ownerships reached 450,000; and in 2024, the number of new energy vehicles produced and sold are expected to exceed 1,000,000, and the number of ownerships may reach 650,000.

Make up for shortcomings and create a convenient supercharging ecology

Although various investors in Chongqing are speeding up the layout of new energy supercharging facilities, the reporter found in the interview that compared with the rapidly developed new energy automobile industry and new energy vehicle ownerships in Chongqing, the super-charging infrastructure construction in Chongqing still has some shortcomings.

For example, the construction of facilities is lagging behind, and the number of supercharging stations is insufficient and far from meeting the demand for charging new energy vehicles. Meanwhile, the layout is uneven, and the stations are sparse and disorderly, so the user experience is relatively poor. In addition, there are more than 300 enterprises in Chongqing involved in charging and switching operations, the data is not shared and interconnected, and the level of construction is uneven. The number of ultra-charging and switching stations with “one second for one kilometer” and “full charge and go after one cup of coffee” is small, and the queuing and waiting time is long.

“Seizing the ‘window period’, making every effort to create a convenient super-charging ecology, and building a first-class convenient super-charging city in the country are conducive to improving the charging infrastructure service capacity of our city, but also conducive to enhancing the competitiveness of our city’s new energy automobile vehicles and perfecting our city’s new energy automobile supporting industry chain.” The relevant person in charge of Chongqing Economic and Information Commission said.

Within two years, 1,340 supercharging stations will be built in downtown areas of Chongqing

At the Municipal Charging Infrastructure Construction Promotion Meeting held on March 29, it was proposed that by 2025, the “One-kilometer Supercharging Circle” will be built in the downtown areas of Chongqing.

By 2025, 1,340 supercharging stations will be built in the downtown areas of Chongqing; 430 supercharging stations will be built in the downtown new areas and Wanzhou District, to achieve a reasonable distribution of supercharging infrastructure and scene full coverage; 100 supercharging stations will be built in “two groups” areas, to achieve the basic coverage of supercharging infrastructure; and 170 supercharging stations will be built in the highway service areas, to achieve full coverage of supercharging infrastructure.
