CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In late spring, Chongqing bursts with blossoms. Citizens come out to enjoy the flowers, finding beauty in unexpected moments around every turn. The "train to spring" sets off once again, carrying the hopes of people's for a better life.

In Yihe Ecological Park, located in Yubei District, a large area of roses is in full bloom, forming a flower wall stretching about 50 meters long. Lush green leaves overlap and intertwine, with pink blooms nestled among the foliage, drawing many locals to pause and admire.

In the central median strip of Jinzhou Avenue in Liangjiang New Area, the sun casts a slanting light on the tree-shaped roses, making them appear rosy and delicate, creating a unique urban scenery amidst the hustle and bustle of the main road.

Chongqing, adorned with these colorful "makeup", looks even more attractive this spring. Over the past few days, reporters have interviewed officials from relevant departments to uncover the "secret" behind the city's blossoming flowers everywhere.

Meticulous decoration: every flower and tree is a piece of scenery

"Having seen vast mountains and rivers, looking at Chongqing's every blade of grass and every tree from a different perspective doesn't feel monotonous. In this city, the beauty of individual elements blends into the subtle details of the urban landscape, each radiating its unique charm," introduced Liao Congquan, director of the Urban Landscaping and Greening Management Office of the Municipal Urban Administration Bureau, revealing Chongqing’s fine decorations appeared in recent years.

In Lianfang New Park, Shapingba District, azaleas “cascade” down the hillside, forming a "waterfall" over ten meters wide.

"There are many 'flower waterfalls', but not all can stand up to the scrutiny of industry professionals," says Liu Liang, a professional plant photographer who enjoys capturing details of every petals and blades with a telephoto lens. "As we get closer and take a detailed look, each rhododendron displays strong vitality. Its petals are tightly clustered together, forming clusters and clusters of flower balls."

In the most beautiful April, irises bloom gracefully. "To those unfamiliar with flowers, the name 'iris' might sound a bit strange. Those who love flowers but haven't heard of it might miss out," says Zhu Dong, a student from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, who is currently sketching at the Chongqing Garden Expo Park. In front of him, the purple irises with white and purple speckles resemble butterfly-like crests fluttering among the green leaves.

Zhu Dong skillfully captured the intricate textures of the iris with his paintbrush, with its flared trumpet-shaped upper part and sheath-like base, along with several subtle longitudinal veins. "Back when I was in oil painting class, I once copied Van Gogh's 'Irises.' I never expected to see that shade of purple here in the Garden Expo Park," he said.

Emphasize scale effect: "one district, one product" and "one road, one feature"

Recently, many citizens driving through Jianxin North Road in Jiangbei District have noticed newly planted tree-shaped roses in the median strip, with tall trunks and flowers larger than human faces. Paired with plants like pansies and wooden hydrangeas, they stretch out like a colorful ribbon along the road into the distance.

"In the past couple of days, the tree-shaped roses in Chongqing have begun their first bloom, with a blooming period that will extend from now until November," said Fan Dan, head of the Greening Section of Jiangbei District Urban Management Bureau. He shared that the greening enhancement project in the median strip of Jianxin North and South Road has been completed, with 212 tree-shaped roses and hydrangeas been replaced and planted, enhancing both the planting area and continuity of ornamental plants along the route, creating a landscape rich in variety and harmonious in color for a beautiful botanical artistry.

"For linear spaces like urban expressways, main and secondary roadsides, and median strips, we deliberately emphasize the scale effect to create a cohesive and beautiful linear space," said Liao Congquan. He mentioned that in recent years, Chongqing has followed the principles of "one district, one product" and "one road, one feature", focusing on cultivating characteristic plant varieties and coordinating the scale of plantings across districts and counties. For instance, Jiangbei District has undertaken large-scale planting of tree-like roses, Yuzhong District has introduced and selected superior varieties of bougainvillea on a large scale, and Banan District has managed pruning and precise fertilization to allow the crape myrtle to "bloom a second time"...

In recent years, the central urban areas have addressed areas with insufficient proportion of flowering and colorful foliage plants, as well as those lacking in scale effect. Efforts have been made to supplement and improve these areas to achieve both scale and distinctive features. Existing flowering and colorful foliage plants have also been checked, and missing or dead ones have been replanted and supplemented. (Translated by Wang Zhong, Fathom Language Limited)
