CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On May 5, the reporter learned from Ctrip, Fliggy and other platforms that tourism in Chongqing was exceptionally vibrant during this holiday period. Hotel bookings, car rentals, and inbound and outbound travel orders all saw comprehensive growth, making the "city of mountains and rivers" a "hub of cultural tourism".

According to data from Ctrip, Chongqing ranks among the top 5 popular destinations nationwide during the holiday, with hotel bookings saw a year-on-year increase of 34%, outbound travel orders surged by 52%, and inbound travel orders soared by 203%. The primary sources of tourists visiting Chongqing are Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, and Guangzhou. Meanwhile, popular travel destinations for Chongqing residents include Chengdu, Xi'an, Guiyang, Leshan, and Zunyi.

Tourist attractions popular among tourists during the holiday in Chongqing include Chongqing Happy Valley, Wulong Three Natural Bridges, Huguang Guild Hall, the Bombing of Chongqing “6.5” Tunnel Tragedy History Exhibition Hall, and Chongqing Zoo.

On Fliggy, Chongqing's performance is equally remarkable. During this year's May Day holiday, bookings for car rentals and boat tickets in Chongqing destinations increased by nearly 40% year-on-year. Many travelers opted for self-driving tours to explore the city in depth.

Fliggy's "2024 May Day Holiday Travel Express" reveals a notable increase in the depth of domestic travel in terms of play methods, service content, and destination choices. Per capita bookings for this holiday increased by 12% compared to the previous year. Particularly, per capita bookings for services such as car rentals, hotels, and guided tours showed a more significant increase, with guided tour bookings increasing by approximately 30% year-on-year.

According to data from the Ministry of Transport, the average daily cross-regional personnel flow in the entire society during this holiday exceeded 270 million person-times, with over 80% opting for self-driving travel. Fliggy data further indicates that car rental, chartered car, and other self-driving tour bookings for this year's May Day holiday have all increased by more than 40% year-on-year. With travel methods offering greater freedom and more flexible itinerary arrangements, people are venturing beyond classic destinations to explore new ones and experiencing a wider range of travel content along the way.

Additionally, during this holiday, outbound travel continued its rapid growth, nearly doubling compared to previous years. Specifically, outbound travel hotel bookings increased by about 100% year-on-year. Car rental and self-driving tours have gained popularity overseas, with booking amounts more than tripling year-on-year. The supply of international cruise ships has rapidly recovered, leading to a significant surge in cruise tour bookings, which have increased by more than 15 times year-on-year.

Chongqing tourists are showing a strong enthusiasm for outbound travel, with bookings for international air tickets and hotels nearly doubling year-on-year. According to Qunar data, Chinese tourists have visited 1,035 cities worldwide, with a concentrated surge in travel activities. This has significantly contributed to the global consumption recovery, making "Chinese holidays" once again a peak season for global tourism consumption.
