CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- 11 TOD projects were unveiled at the 2024 Chongqing Rail Transit (CRT) Promotion Meeting, attracting more than 80 real estate enterprises, financial institutions, and construction companies, such as Poly Property, C&D Real Estate, China State Construction Engineering.

TOD, which stands for transit-oriented development, refers to an innovative development concept for urban planning and rail transit. The TOD development model is designed to realize the efficient and intensive utilization of land, guide the organic decentralization and centralization in cities, and enhance the value of cities.
Take the Shapingba TOD project which has been put into operation as an example. As the first TOD project built on a high-speed railway station in China, it aims at developing a transportation hub where different modes of transportation intersect smoothly and passengers can make transfers between different means of transportation quickly and efficiently, and building a city square with openness, compatibility, and connectivity. The project covers a floor area of 21.82 hectares, with a total building area of about 750,000 square meters. Topped with a commercial property offering 480,000 square meters of development space, the Shapingba Railway Station adopts the ‘traffic core’ design concept and integrates five railway tracks. The Shapingba TOD project achieves the efficient use of land and the full integration of a convenient transportation hub and a business area, producing both social and economic benefits.
To date, the downtown area in Chongqing has been fully covered by the CRT network consisting of 13 lines with a mileage of 538km. The construction of several CRT lines has been under way in Chongqing.
“The rapid development of CRT provides a solid foundation for the health and orderly development of TOD projects in Chongqing,” said the official from Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group, adding that Chongqing has set many world records from the construction of the Liziba TOD station, the first commercial building built on a rail station in Chongqing that has become a must-see spot for tourists in Chongqing, to the completion of Longfor Jinsha Paradise Walk, to the transfer of land for the Sigongli and Wangjiazhuang TOD projects. TOD projects have taken root and blossomed in Chongqing.

To step up the construction of a ‘metropolitan on tracks’, Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group has accelerated the development of high-quality land along the rail tracks and organized the TOD promotion meeting, which represented the first comprehensive TOD development project cooperation and investment promotion meeting in Chongqing.
The land area recommended at the promotion meeting covers a floor area of 887.04 mu and a total building area of 1,233,600 square meters in the core areas equipped with perfect supporting facilities in downtown Chongqing, such as Wulidian, Jiuquhe, Jinshansi, Guanyue Road, Tiantangbao, Dashancun, Shima Interchange, Laijiaqiao, Daxuecheng, Caojiawan, and Chongqingdong Rail Station.
The 11 TOD projects recommended at the promotion meeting have multiple advantages in location, transportation, supporting facilities, etc., and are of great development value, said Zuo Xuan, the deputy director of the Management Department of the Assets Division of Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group, during the promotion.
Take the Chongqingdong Railway Station project as an example. Located in Chayuan New Area, Chongqingdong Railway Station is the largest newly built comprehensive transport hub in Chongqing, and will become the intersection of the TOD projects of Line 6, Line 24, Line 27, and Line 8. The planned area for the Chongqingdong Railway Station project is 3.47 square kilometers (5,205 mu), of which around 151.78 mu is planned for transfer. Adjacent to Guangmao Avenue and Xingtang Road, the land to be transferred boasts a beautiful environment and desirable supporting recourses, such as four plots of land for education, a commercial district of about 00,000 square meters, three general hospitals, and Shenjiawan Green Corridor Park.
