20 dragon boat teams race across Changshou Lake to celebrate Dragon Boat Festival

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- With the sound of beating drums, the fourth Chongqing Dragon Boat Open kicked off in Changshou, where 20 dragon boat teams from Chongqing, Sichuan, and Hunan started a thrilling race across Changshou Lake.
The 4th Chongqing Dragon Boat Open was held in Wulong District, Changshou District, Tongnan District, and Hechuan District, with Changshou District as the second stop. The competition included the 200-meter and the 500-meter races utilizing the 22-person dragon boats, and the medals and prizes were awarded to the top eight teams in terms of total score for both rounds of competition.
The 200-meter and the 500-meter preliminaries, qualifying races, and finals were successively held starting from 8:30. The contestants in identical uniforms pulled as hard as they could on the oars in unison to the constant rhythm of drumbeats, starting exciting dragon boat racing on the Changshou Lake.
After two rounds of fierce competitions, the Hechuan Men’s Dragon Boat Team won the championship, and the second, third, and fourth places were respectively won by the dragon boat team of Chongqing Three Gorges University, the dragon boat team of Southwest Medical University, and the Suining dragon boat team.
As one of the most significant customs to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, dragon boat racing has a long and continuous history. The Chongqing Dragon Boat Open this year is more than a great spectacle; it has carried forward and promoted the traditional Chinese culture, enriched the cultural life of citizens, and enhanced the popularity and reputation of Changshou Lake. In the future, Changshou Lake will continue to stage more cultural activities with local characteristics to promote the development of the culture and tourism industry.
