Reports reveal the most popular tourist attractions in Chongqing in the first half of 2024

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The Chongqing Online Travel Consumption Report for the First Half of 2024, the Report on the Communication of Culture & Tourism WeChat Official Accounts in Districts and Counties of Chongqing for the First Half of 2024, and the Camping Industry Influence Index Research Report in Southwest China for 2023 were recently released at the 2023 Zhihui Seminar on Innovation and Development of Culture & Tourism taking place at Chongqing Normal University.
The 2023 Zhihui Seminar on Innovation and Development of Culture & Tourism, initiated by Chongqing Normal University, Ctrip Group, Chongqing Culture and Tourism Information Centre, and Chongqing Culture and Tourism Association, focuses on regional development in Chongqing, at which participants gather to share ideas on accelerating the construction of world-renowned tourist destinations in Chongqing.
In the first half of 2024, Chongqing's online tourism market experienced an upward trend, with a 23.54% year-on-year growth in the number of trips and a 23.46% year-on-year increase in tourism consumption, according to the Chongqing Online Travel Consumption Report for the First Half of 2024. Because of the Spring Festival and May Day holidays, February and May respectively saw the growth peaks of the online travel market, with the number of visits and the amount of consumption up 49.33% and 98.69% year-on-year in February and up 34% and 29.97% year-on-year in May. The report also shows that hotels, air tickets, and other services were the most prominent segments in the online travel market of Chongqing in the first half of 2024 in terms of the number of trips and the amount of consumption. Among the top ten districts and counties with the highest amount of tourist consumption, Fengjie, Yuzhong, and Shapingba were within the top three in terms of year-on-year growth rates; among the top ten districts and counties with the highest number of visits, Fengjie, Yuzhong, and Jiangbei ranked among top three in terms of year-on-year growth rates.
In the first half of 2024, 62.58% of Chongqing's online travel consumers came from other cities, while 37.42% were from within the city. During this period, the top ten domestic tourist sources included Chongqing, Sichuan, Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Guizhou, Shandong, and Hubei.
Reports suggest that the main domestic tourist sources for Chongqing were Chengdu and Chongqing itself, and the main overseas tourist sources included East and Southeast Asia in the first half of 2024. To be specific, more than 60% of overseas visitors to Chongqing came from Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and Malaysia. The top source cities of overseas tourists were Singapore City, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Seoul.
In terms of the unit price of the online cultural tourism products in Chongqing, vacation took first place at CNY876.57, followed by air tickets at CNY844.8 in the first half of 2024. During this period, the post-2010, post-1980, and post-1970 generations constituted the majority of online tourism consumers in Chongqing; Jiefangbei/Hongyadong was the business district with the highest number of room nights; Yuzhong, Yubei, and Jiangbei were the top three districts/counties in terms of the popularity of accommodation; and Three Natural Bridges, Chongqing Zoo, and Fairy Mountain National Forest Park were the top scenic areas in terms of the popularity of hotels.
In 2022, tents generated billions of yuan in consumer spending, making the Camping Economy one of the few sub-markets growing against the downward trend in the tourism industry and a new trend of cultural tourism consumption. That’s why the Camping Industry Influence Index Research Report in Southwest China for 2023 was released at the seminar.
The Research Report finds that the distribution of campsites in Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, and Yunnan was more intensive, with the proportion of campsites in the four provinces/municipalities respectively accounting for 35.47%, 17.93%, 22.20%, and 22.07% within Southwest China.
